Maintaining Your Focus
If you’ve chosen a great goal for yourself and you’re fully committed to fulfilling your dreams, you know that you’re going to encounter obstacles, resistance and frustration. Problems are part of the process. That means it’s inevitable that there will be setbacks, even if you couldn’t anticipate how events would conspire to slow you down and block your progress. So, it’s ironic that we can prepare ourselves mentally to face the challenges to our business plans but we’re never prepared for the disruptions to our private lives. Have you noticed that? How often does an unforeseen problem crop up in your career path at exactly the same time as a crisis erupts at home? Yet, that’s what can happen. And it’s very difficult to prepare for a conflict on two fronts. In general, the issues in our private lives take up more of our emotional energy and attention than the challenges faced at work. It’s how we’re wired. The question now is to ask if there’s an effective way to deal with these conflicting forces in our lives? Let’s take a closer look.
If we accept the premise that everything is connected, then it’s clear that the way we do one thing is going to influence all the other areas of our lives. Problems at home can easily intrude into our working routine. Problems at work can easily trigger feelings of anxiety, stress and fear. When we remember to breathe, relax and maintain a sense of mental and emotional equilibrium, it’s easier to engage our higher brain function and work our way through our difficulties with logic, reason and creativity. Learning to detach ourselves from the anxiety surrounding our domestic concerns helps us to function more efficiently. We can discern patterns that shed light on the situation and offer a pathway through the chaos. This new sense of control is very reassuring and helps us to understand our lives with greater clarity as we dispel the fog of confusion and free ourselves from the darkness of our fears.
If you’ve created a vision board to remind you what your completed goal will achieve – congratulations. It’s very helpful to have a visual representation of your future success that will serve as a channel for your determination. It acts as a permanent reminder of why you’re following your chosen pathway and what you will achieve when you cross the finishing line. It’s a perfect tool for maintaining focus and momentum, especially when you run into obstacles. It works because the imagery you choose resonates in your subconscious and channels your subliminal resources in the service of your ambitions. Does it work? Absolutely. No business venture should begin without one. Make sure to display your personal vision board wherever you work – and keep a copy at home to reinforce the message. It’s a superb way to keep you on track towards the fulfilment of your dreams.
