Maintaining The Status Quo Or Making Progress?

You are working hard but are you making progress? This is an erroneous belief for many. To predict the direction of your life, you need to measure how much time you are actually spending trying to enhance it. Then you need to see how much of your time you are spending just keeping the status quo.

While it is the New Year already, did you make any resolutions?

Many people are working hard to accomplish things to make their life better. They usually expend a lot of energy wishing, fantasizing and worrying. You don't enhance your life when you do any of these. Think about what you have completed this week that would take your life to the next level. Probably not much if you are like many people.

Because there is uncertainty, change is challenging. Even if you are unhappy, familiar things are comforting. People will naturally move to the familiar even if that makes them miserable. Progress becomes easier when you can become comfortable with change.

Create the change that you desire

It isn't enough to work hard. You won't see any progress if you are working hard on the wrong things. If you are spending your time wisely, then effort matters. For real change, you need to spend time doing those constructive things that are above what you need to live as you are now.

What have you learned lately? If you use the information you have learned, then the new information helps you to create change in your life. What are you doing every day if you are not learning,? Are you watching television? If you are, you are maintaining the status quo. With new information, you have new understanding.

Are you adding new people to your social circle? Nothing will change if you continue to be with the same people every day. You gain a new perspective and get new ideas when you meet new people.

What are you doing that is new? If you repeat the same workout at the gym, you will neither gain nor lose ground. When you don't change your behaviour, you get the same results.

  • You get the same paycheck when you deliver he same results when going into the same job every day.
  • You get the same actions when you think the same thoughts
  • There will be no changes when you do the same hobbies

At the end of each day you need to ask yourself two questions.

  • What would my life, finances, health, relationships and social life be like if I relived this day over and over for the next 20 years?
  • What did I do to take my life to the next level or did I do nothing so my life will not change in the future?
  • Write your answers in a journal. If you continue to write nothing that is interesting, you will soon get tired. Making a difference in your life will now take up more of your time. Your answers to these two questions are useful to help you to predict the future.

Do you have goals? Are you measuring your progress? You get desired changes in your life through your goals. You can expect to see progress in your life if you have goals and you can see yourself making progress.

  • If you don't have any concrete goals you are choosing to keep the status quo. Your changes will be the result of random chance.

Few people are doing anything to make a better life possible even though they claim to want a better life. Wishing is a lot easier than having to face uncertainty in your life.

Working hard but failing to make headway? You need to spend time doing something every day that will let you accomplish something new in the future. You will make more progress towards the life you desire when you spend more time doing this.
