Maintaining Excellent Performance, JBG Awarded Green Trophy of PROPER For the 4th Year

PT Jorong Barutama Greston (JBG), a subsidiary of PT Indo Tambangraya Megah Tbk (ITM), received the green trophy in the 2023 Environmental Awards (PROPER) held by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK). The 2023 PROPER awarding ceremony was attended by the Vice President of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. K.H. Ma'ruf Amin, and the Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry, Drs. Alue Dohong, M.Sc , Ph.D. The event took place on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Bidakara Hotel in Jakarta.

The PROPER awards, which have been held since 1995, represents the appreciation from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) for companies demonstrating good environmental management, eco-innovation, social innovation, and green leadership. For JBG, receiving the green trophy of PROPER 2023 is a significant accomplishment, as it reflects the Company’s successful efforts in maintaining this recognition for 4 consecutive years.

"The green trophy awarded to JBG this year has the distinction of being able to maintain good performance in the aspects assessed. In 2023, JBG successfully recorded significant energy efficiency, reducing emissions and water use efficiency. We will continue to innovate to improve our performance in environmental and social aspects to provide a greater impact on the environment and communities around the working area, as well strive to have greater assessment results," said I Gede Widiada, JBG Minehead.

The awarding of the Green title to JBG was based on a number of innovations carried out by the Company, including the use of water kinetic energy to drive turbine blades in the acid mine water management unit which succeeded in reducing energy by 53 GJ. Apart from that, the PROPER 2023 assessment team also appreciated the reduction in emissions of 28.5 tons of CO Eq from the use of kinetic energy in the acid mine drainage lime mixing process. Furthermore, JBG is also able to increase water use efficiency of 57,431 M from the use of settling pond outlet water as an electricity source.

In his presentation, Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry, Drs. Alue Dohong, M. Sc, Ph. million GJ, reduced GHG emissions by 229.6 million tons CO2eq, reduced conventional emissions by 15.8 million tons, B3 waste reduction by 55.4 million tons, 3R non-B3 waste by 34.8 million tons, water efficiency by 437, 32 million m3, reducing the burden of water pollution by 6.02 million tons and efforts to protect biodiversity covering an area of 308 thousand hectares.

The 2023 PROPER assessment was carried out on 3,694 companies, of which 79 companies received the gold title, 196 received the green title, 2,131 received the blue title, and 1,077 companies received the red title. In addition, assessment results on as many as 211 participating companies have not been announced.
