Main Problems in Sport Tournaments

Inflexibility: To add teams and keep format structure we must duplicate the number of teams

Score Manipulation: The probability of score manipulations in groups of 4 teams is 50%

Sportive Value: Large number of matches are played with one or both sides having no incentive to win

Match-Fixing: These “dead-rubbers” are extremely vulnerable to spot-fixing or even match-fixing

Luck of draw:  Opponents may be paired randomly and thus depend on the “luck of draw”

Low amount of matches: using only KO format, the total number of matches is number of teams-1. Can be double by using home & away matches, but further expansion isn’t feasible

The solution? New tournament formats, without groups, without playoffs.
