The Magnetricity Series-1, Episode-2
Think about a magnet.
We've been told a magnet has two poles - North and South; You can feel the effect of magnetic energy when you connect one magnet to another magnet - they either attract or repel each other.
Consider a magnet sitting by itself; is there energy within the magnet? Yes, there is, however, it is not potential energy because a magnetic field is always in motion, we call that Magnetic Motive Force (MMF).
The next logical question is; where does that energy come from?
A MMF field has energy inherent within itself. The issue with MMF is that it appears to defy the first law of Thermodynamics.
Magnetic energy also travels outside of the magnet in the form of waves or fields. You can see them illuminated in the photo. This creates another dilemma, which seems to break the second law of Thermodynamics. Breaking these well entrenched laws tends to upset academicians.
