The Magnet Theory

Former fitpro for over 23 years, and business owner for over 18 years. Now ready for the next chapter
You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to realise how your average fridge magnet works.
It’s not going to work if you don’t have something similar to hold something with.?
Putting your kids drawings on the front door with a magnet isn’t going to work.
Basically, as I read last week:
“Magnets repel as strong as they attractâ€
And it brings up an interesting parallel when it comes to exercise and training.?
Well anything in life really.?
There’s a reason why you’re reading this right now.
Somewhere along the line I’ve said something that you’ve agreed with. Not everything I’m sure, cause it’s not North Korea, or Victoria, and you can have a different opinion on things to the ‘great leader’.
But somewhere we have to have some type of common ground.
I’m not naive enough to realise that I’m not for everyone.
And that’s a good thing.
Cause I know everyone is not for me.
I’d rather waste a couple of weeks, or sometimes even the first session, to know that I’m working with someone who I can see a connection to and we’d be likely to get along.
The same for them with me.
I don’t want going to work every day to be a punish.
I don’t take myself too seriously and post shirts off selfies to promote my business. Great if that’s for you, but it’s not for me.
Let’s be honest, I’m not going to be confused for Chris Hemsworth.

On the other side, I realise that I’m not for everyone either. For the people who want someone to drill them military style or get in their face to push them.
I prefer other methods of getting someone to listen to me.
Besides, if I want to speak to people who don’t listen, I’ll go home and ask my kids to do something…
What I do know, and as I’ve mentioned?earlier this year?when I broke down the time frames that someone stays on average with DPM, is that once people find their place here, they tend to stay.
For a quick refresher, or for those who’ve joined the journey this year, back in January 40.5% of DPMers had been around for at least 10 years – with 3 reaching the 15 year milestone this year.
That number would be even higher if I counted the ones who’ve had a break or two over the years for a number of different reasons then come back on deck.
And that’s through the GFC, the pandemic and who knows what’s next.?
I love seeing people make it part of their regular routine.
When people feel like they’ve found their place.
Let’s be honest. We all know what to do.
The main reason I’ve had a business coming up on 17 years in October is because people like routine and not having to think about what they should be doing.
They just turn up to an agreed upon place at an agreed upon time and follow the game plan for that day that isn’t too complicated to frustrate them.
So thank you to those whose magnet seems to be drawn to mine.
For those who aren’t that’s cool.
They’ll find theirs.
Every workout you do should be helping you in the right direction – be that physically, mentally and even just a break from everyday reality with everything else going down.
Cheers,
Daniel
