Magmeter troubleshooting: What is causing errors on this meter?
I visited a Water Treatment Plant to help figure out the problem with this magnetic flowmeter. The meter reads erratically and has very wide swings in measurement when the pump is running at steady speed.
The wiring is perfect and the install included a "belt and suspenders" approach of both internal grounding electrodes with Grounding rings (properly connected).
Can you figure out the problem?
Let me know what you think.

1 年It is always something interesting. I was thinking static charge picked up from the poly Hypochlorite pipe. Once we had signal injected from a 50K Watt transmitter from a radio station. Never a dull moment.

1 年OK, here's the issue. There is a 1" PVC line injecting bleach into the 36" potable water line. It is only 6 ft before the meter. What is actually happening is that the bleach injection into the water line was causing a chemical reaction that resulted in an electrical current being generated inside the meter. The meter reads the current as flow. When we closed the ball valve feeding the bleach, the problem went away. The customer will relocate the bleach injection to a point downstream of the meter to resolve the issue.

1 年Is this a new install, or has this meter been in service for awhile? Could be a number of issues, from water quality like conductivity being to low or high, air from flow being to low as not a full pipe, or pump cavitation, etc. Has a clamp on meter been installed to verify reading?
