The Magician, The Magus, or The Juggler (I) is the first trump card or Major Arcana card in most traditional Tarot decks. It is used in game playing as well as in divination. In divination it is considered by some to succeed The Fool card, often numbered 0 (zero): Wikipedia
The Magician King Trump
Welcome to the Trump era. As we all now know to our present peril Love did NOT Trump hate. Trump's Great Reveal is currently in progress............his tax returns (well, a couple of pages from 2005) have been handed to Rachel Maddow of MSNBC; special counsel Robert Mueller and his team expert in money laundering are knee-deep in the Russia Connection; the US Congress is still investigating him and his cohorts. It's a great start........but we need MORE to motivate Congress and US public opinion to......... do what? Replace him with Pence, a Prince of the Reactionary Orthodox Church?
A nice Shakespearean Impeachment Drama could be entertaining though, similar to live reality- telly. The Senate Investigation into the Trump Trough links to Emperor Putin may yield some 'actionable intelligence' as they say. The mid-term elections may shift the balance of power within Congress. Everyone says "Wait and See." There's talk of the 25th Amendment. But I feel like a kid the night before Christmas who wants to open her Mueller present NOW!
Impeachment is a high threshold to reach but they're chipping away at it. So far, there is speculation, supposition, theories, circumstantial threads implicating him via his inner circle, but we need more than happy day-dreams of evidence. We preferably need evidence with DIRECT links to Trump himself that sheets home his treasonous behaviour. However, circumstantial evidence alone convicts murderers every day. But it has not yet been nailed legally, folks. We all KNOW he's guilty right? But PROVING it to a very high standard is a challenging work in progress. Momentum is gathering, a good sign. I still remember the reporting of Watergate (via Time Magazine) and how things started to build gradually to a critical mass. Keeping the pressure on from the grassroots up is the key.
In March I wrote: "What we really need is an event in the real world to help shift the dynamics. We need the BIG REVEAL! Even a small leak would be good. Someone to crack and spill the beans in exchange for a sweet deal with the special prosecutor!"
We've hit the jackpot, People. Trump just did it himself. His inflammatory rhetorical shouting match positions him squarely in a secure facility medicated with restraints.
I attended a Trump Symposium of University Professors in Auckland NZ in March. The cross -disciplinary contributions from Law, Politics, Philosophy and Media Studies were fascinating and engaging. There was a sense of frustration though at the seemingly stalled investigation process into the Russian influence on the US election in the US Congress. But I see progress like this - we can usually only see the activity on our corner of the board. The rest of the board may seem not to be moving but that's just our perspective and movement is not always in our field of vision. I trust Mueller's slow process. Putting evidence together and making a coherent case is like making a patchwork quilt. America is yet a resilient democracy with robust checks and balances.
The Perversion of a Presidency
Trump's ascension to the hallowed Presidency of the United States of America could have been a solemn and mystical undertaking underpinned by its religious and constitutional ritual - the closest thing Americans get to a crowning. Instead, they are watching an uncrowned Fool's clumsy attempts to play child-king-dictator. Embarrassing and disturbing. Sad....and frightening, given his unpredictable fickle views on the nuclear option.
Update: This week (in August) he has inflamed the world with his Dr. Strangelove invective to North Korea.
Initially I wrote: "May some of its (the Presidency's) magic rub off on President Trump so that his priorities magically transform (it is still possible), his orientation changes to The People of America, he develops a dignified and awed sense of stewardship of the Office, a respect for public servants, does his best to serve all Americans and leaves his country and the world in a better place than he found it. I wish him well for his forthcoming transformation as he assumes the burdens of Office".
REPORT CARD: Mark so far: I give him a D for Donald and Disaster.......must try less and play nicer. Needs to keep quiet in class as he is disturbing everyone else. Thinks he's the boss of everything. Trouble at home perhaps? Will refer for assessment.
Magician Tarot Story https://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/learn/meanings/magician.shtml
"Traveling on his way, the Fool first encounters a Magician. Skillful, self-confident, a powerful magus with the infinite as a halo floating above his head, the Magician mesmerizes the Fool. When asked, the Fool gives over his bundled pack and stick to the Magician. Raising his wand to heaven, pointing his finger to Earth, the Magician calls on all powers. Magically, the cloth of the pack unfolds upon the table, revealing its contents.
To the Fool's eyes, it is as if the Magician has created the future with a word. All the possibilities are laid out, all the directions he can take: The cool, airy Sword of intellect and communication, the fiery Wand of passions and ambition, the overflowing Chalice of love and emotions, the solid Pentacle of work, possessions and body.
With these tools, the Fool can create anything, make anything of his life. But here's the question, did the Magician create the tools, or were they already in the pack? Only the Magician knows - and on this mystery, our eloquent mage refuses to say a word."
"The tarot reader might well interpret this card as telling the querent that they will be given a vision, an idea, a magical, mental image of whatever it is they most want: the solution to a problem, an ambitious career, a love life, a job".
If any card in the Tarot is the Tarot, it is the Magician. He's one of the most recognizable cards, always a favorite. He's also the only card in the major arcana that refers to the minors with the "trumps" displayed upon his table. One way to look at them is as ideas that the Magician is offering you.
Thus, the card is about getting an idea and finding a way to verbalize it. This is the first step toward making it a reality. Which is why the Magician can indicate a time when one is eloquent and charismatic, clever, witty, inventive and persuasive.
Keep in mind, however, that the Magician could be a trickster. If this card represents some magnetic person in the querent's life, they need to make sure that he's or she is a genuine magician, not a con man.
Most importantly, the Magician card stands for the "reveal" - as in a magic trick. The handkerchief is draped over an empty box, the Magician waves his wand, *presto!*--now there is a dove in the box. The Magician card does the same for the querent--only what it reveals is not birds or rabbits but NEW ideas. Emphasis on NEW. When the Magician card appears, the querent is likely to say: "Now there's an idea! Why didn't I think of that before?" Truth is the querent probably had that idea in his head all along. The Magician merely revealed it to him, allowed him to verbalize it and crystallize that idea. But what will the Querent do with this idea?"
