The Magic of Self Care to protect your integrity
How did you wake up this morning? Remember how you stepped out of bed and took the first steps? How did it feel? Were you in a rush, head full of yesterday's todo list?
I admit, when I open my eyes in the morning and I don't feel like this is "my day" I dare to turn around, close my eyes again and take a deep breath, saying to myself: "This is my day anyway".
Self care rituals have a big impact on how you feel and what will happen over the day. They don't solve every problem, but they might as well avoid disaster if you don't care about your SELF.
When we designed the Calmée Energy Break app, our expert team was lead by a key paradigm: How does it feel for you doing what you are doing? As a mother you may think: How can I dare to ask, how I feel when taking care of my kids? I would have to anyway even if I don't feel like it! Or at your job: Deadlines don't care about how we feel, a bus driver or a nurse has to do her job no matter how she feels. And still: Even under pressure it makes a difference to ask yourself questions that raise your self awareness about why and how you are doing things. Sometimes a simple statement like: I am there for my kids, because I love them and my love makes me feel stronger and a better person even in times when I don't feel like it.
To live more consciously (mindfully) can turn a stressful situation into something meaningful, even it is not fun at all! Preparing for a competition or a stage performance may be boring or stressful at times. Yet the idea to win or share a special moment with the audience may delight your rehearsal and eventually boost your performance.
I didn't count the days that were stressful or unpleasant over the past 30 years of my life. And I can tell you there were a lot! But I assure you that each day, no matter how hard or grey, was filled with tiny moments of joy, hope and a smile because I took time to stick to my self care rituals as part of my decision to take care for my SELF, because you are the most important person in your life.
