I read a lot of books. I guess you can call me a book nerd because I love reading. For the most part I read non-fiction books. In my over-extended library you will find how-to books’, self-help, biographies, autobiographies, historical accounts, medical and science books. I love nonfiction books because they provide factual information, insights, and real-life stories that can educate, inspire, and empower.

How-to books are some of my favorites because they offer practical advice and step-by-step instructions on a wide range of topics, from cooking to DIY projects. I have learned how to do many tasks by following the instructions in a book how to book. Remember when the yellow and black ‘for dummies’ or orange for ‘Idiots” series emerged? If you check my bookshelf or my library record you would find a long list of them. As a life-long learner how to books have been a lifeline.?

Self-help books focus on personal development and mental well-being, offering strategies for improving various aspects of life. In fact all three of my published books could be considered self-help books. When I wrote One Plus One Equals Ten: A First Lady’s Survival Guide for Stepmoms, it was designed to not only share my story but also give bonus families and bonus moms/stepmoms the tools they needed to manage blended family life. When I wrote Divorced and Still Highly Favored?? I wanted women to learn that the end of their marriage did not mean the end of God’s grace. And finally when I wrote Chosen for This: How to Be Married to Ministry and Have Your Own Life Calling, I desired to help women married to pastors and influencers to emerge from the shadows of their husband’s greatness to stand on their own platform.

A common theme throughout my books is the listing of scriptures to ponder on. The other powerful tool I use is providing opportunities for self-reflection in the form of questions. ?Individuals can privately record their thoughts and feelings by writing in the book or recording their thoughts in a journal. As I went from writing books to having my own coaching programs, I discovered the ?power of assessments to help my clients to learn and grow. As a Christian Counselor , I require all of my clients to complete a temperament assessment prior to our first session. Having clients to complete an assessment saves them time and money because the client and I can both learn what it may have taken two-three sessions to learn about themselves and their current challenge.

When is the last time you completed an assessment of any type? Truth be known, I not only love administering assessments, but I love taking them myself. Some of my favorite books require an assessment before diving into the book. Whenever I complete a self-assessment I learn so much about myself. I discover new strengths and areas for growth that I had not considered before. This process not only helps me improve personally and professionally but also enhances my relationships with others. By knowing myself better, I can communicate more effectively, empathize more genuinely, and connect more deeply. Self-assessments have been a vital tool in my journey of continuous self-improvement and self-discovery.
