The Magic of Sanaa: Where Creativity Meets Purpose

The Magic of Sanaa: Where Creativity Meets Purpose

Sanaa; what a place! The fresh air, the natural ambiance, and the stunning view of one of Arusha’s top hotels create an almost magical atmosphere. It’s more than just a workshop; it’s a movement, a space where creativity, inclusion, and sustainability come together in perfect harmony.

Born from a shared philanthropic vision, Sanaa was established with two key missions: to empower people with disabilities and to promote environmental conservation. But we’ll get to the founders later first, let’s talk about the magic happening here.

Step inside, and you’ll witness the fiery brilliance of glassmaking. The heat of the furnace, the precision of craftsmanship, and the passion of the artisans all come together to create stunning glass art pieces. Every item tells a story, each one a testament to skill, dedication, and the transformative power of art.

Sanaa is more than a workplace. For many, it’s a purpose-driven sanctuary, where disabilities are redefined as abilities, and creativity flourishes in an environment that champions inclusion. “Our staff are highly valued,” says Happiness Mkango, Sanaa’s Human Resource Officer. “They bring so much innovation and creativity, producing high-end, unique pieces of art. This has set Sanaa apart, giving us a distinct market advantage. We stand out and for that, we deeply appreciate our team.”

The diversity at Sanaa, is its strength. The team includes individuals with different forms of disabilities, yet they find Sanaa to be a safe and empowering space. "We ensure that we accommodate each artisan based on their strengths and capabilities," Happiness continues. "It has been the heartfelt vision of our General Manager and ASB Director to uplift people with disabilities, protect the environment through recycling, and inspire those who purchase our art.”

Beyond glass artistry, Sanaa is making waves in other crafts; weaving, tailoring, and sustainable textile production using locally sourced Tanzanian cotton. The proceeds from these beautiful, handcrafted pieces, found in luxury hotels and homes across the region (maybe even yours someday), are reinvested into supporting education for vulnerable children in Northern Tanzania.

With its unique creations, warm atmosphere, and breathtaking views of the Gran Meliá Hotel, Sanaa is more than just a place to visit; it’s an experience. Whether you stop by for a cup of coffee, a leisurely walk through the art shop, or to soak in the ambiance, one thing is certain: Sanaa will inspire you.

And yes, the place was co-founded by the ASB Hospitality Tanzania Director and another interesting partner.

Sanaa!

Looks like I will be looking for where creativity meets purpose soon enough.
