The Magic of a Micro-World
I remember standing in awe at an audience of over two hundred people in one of my very first?design workshops. I was incredibly nervous- it felt like a stadium of thousands. That was over a decade ago, and my discomfort gradually eased. I came to actually enjoy presenting to large groups- something I could not have ever envisioned that day. A few weeks ago, I had an opportunity to work with a group of five people from Milpitas Unified School District’s Superintendent’s Executive Cabinet. It was, in fact, the smallest session I had ever hosted. And I discovered how lovely it was to downsize into a micro-world. It felt like connecting, not presenting. My voice could be softer, I had no needs for slides, and I immediately knew everyone’s name. It was a lovely reminder of how what we think of constraints are actually opportunities. The size of the session was small, but my growth as a facilitator loomed large.?
