Magic & Mastery Continued

Using the Selah Book Club as a reminder to both finish reading all the books I have in my queue and to stop and reflect on what I have read, I find some books are just so good it feels like a loss to complete the series. One series (Flesh and Fire) and the prequel (Blood and Ash) and not work appropriate but have managed to capture my imagination and reflect on what it takes to ascend to the level of Queen and mastery. While I mentioned some of this in Magic and Mastery, as I revisit these series, a few points stand out to me right now:?

• Fearless Support: Having a partner who recognizes, supports, and is not threatened by your success is key. In addition to not having the distraction of someone’s ego, this means having a safe place to figure out who you are and who you want to become.??
• Speak Your Truth: One series dealt with the topic of assault but both heroines had a default for saying things were okay even when this was a lie, delaying access to help and healing.?
• Encourage Generational Diversity: One series was so focused on the younger generation dealing with extra challenges because of the lies of their parents, it seemed a bit preachy, but one part of this caught my attention, which is that it’s easier to try something new when you’re not beholden to past hurts.
