The magic of introverts!

The magic of introverts!

Growing up, I was always the kid in school who got straight A’s but a common comment in my report cards which said-‘Too quiet in class, needs to talk more'. This was even before the time I got to know of the word ‘Introvert’.

Later , as I grew in my professional life, I transitioned from being an introvert to an ambivert.

I have had many conversations with peers and seniors about the fate of introverts in today’s work life and on the urgent need to ‘Talk more’!!.

I have been a keen observer of introverts in workplaces throughout my career till date and the value they add to any workplace is unique.

My 2 cents on the silent power of introverts!

1)?????Talk less, Listen more

Introverts are excellent listeners. Due to their personalities, these folks tend to listen thoroughly before giving any opinion or counter opinion. In the cacophony of words surrounding us, having an introvert on your team is like a blessing.

The space and freedom introverts give their colleagues to express their thoughts is like a breath of fresh air. As these people take some time to process information, their opinions are well thought of and loaded with immense value! They are a perfect example of the phrase ' Respond don't React'!.

An intense brainstorming session with an introvert will open a plethora of ideas for you. guaranteed!

2)?????Loaded on EQ

Introverts are great observers and hence understand people in a much better way. Understanding here goes much beyond what is spoken. Ever since we have been working from home, getting to know someone has become a true challenge. Trust our dear introverts to lead the way and connect with people at a deep level.

At the end of the day, I can’t emphasize enough the importance of ‘being understood’ at a workplace ??

3)?????Building great relationships

Ironically, some of the best working relationships I have developed have been during the pandemic! This is because a remote work set up provides a level playing field for everyone.

The not-so-loved rectangles in zoom calls are actually an introvert's dream :)

Introverts are amazing at developing one on one relationships, nurturing them and eventually evolving themselves as well as the peer they are interacting with.

4) ?????Detail oriented

As introverts let their work do the talking, they tend to pay careful attention to minute details. Overly critical on themselves most of the times, they ?ensure the highest quality in their deliverables. They are go-getters and independent in the real sense of the term and require very less hand holding.

5) Star Leaders

Introverts are great leaders as they give their team the space to excel without overshadowing them. They are naturally more empathetic, even tempered and understand the value each member brings to the team. They are quick at identifying strengths and translating them into suitable opportunities for their team. They are gentle yet assertive in giving even negative feedback . Passing on the baton of thoughtfulness to their team, these leaders encourage their team to ‘think more’ and ‘ think out of the box’

I have had the pleasure of working with such leaders and can personally vouch for their brilliance.

Having said this, to my earlier point, in a world which doesn’t stop talking its crucial to create a space for introverts to be comfortable and thrive. Its paramount to accept and most importantly celebrate everyone for the way he or she is.Just imagine the wonders we can create collectively if everyone at work could unapologetically be ?the best version of themselves?!

Amen to that !

Very well expressed, Piyusha! Being an introvert is also living a life of loneliness as people tend to be presumptuous about your needs and wants. The new hybrid paradigm of work has fostered inclusion where everyone can exercise their choice on how they want to work.
