The Magic of the Aurora Green Diamond

The Magic of the Aurora Green Diamond

Few Fancy Vivid Green diamonds have ever been sold at auction. In fact, there are only exactly two circumstances. Before the Aurora Green diamond was sold at auction in 2016, the only other Fancy Vivid Green diamond ever auctioned was on November 17, 2009 when Sotheby’s auctioned the famous 2.52 carat Fancy Vivid Green diamond in Geneva. It sold for a world record at the time, $3,078,914 or $1.222 million per carat. When we first met the Aurora Green, we knew it was destined for history. Its incredible color begged a lavish and exquisite setting, and its 5.03 carat size, double the previous green’s size, meant that it was worth at least double the per carat price. Pink and blue diamonds are considered the two most expensive and rare colors, but red, orange, violet, green and purple fetch very high prices because of their rarity and desirability for collectors.

A Fancy Vivid Green diamond is rarer than a Picasso painting.

Scarselli Diamonds has a legacy of recognizing beauty and the potential in magnificent fancy color diamonds.

Some of our legendary diamonds include the Olympia Collection, which was on display at the Museum of Natural History in New York City, the Golden Dragon diamond, the Kimberley Red diamond, and now the Aurora Green diamond as well.

The Aurora Green made history when it sold at Christie’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite auction to Chinese diamond giants Chow Tai Fook for $16,818,983, or $3,337,099 per carat, more than double the per carat price of the previous record holder. It’s new owners now own the largest and most expensive Fancy Vivid Green diamond in the world.

Great stone, greater cut! Since the sale I always wondered what diamond type it is, the original size of the rough and if the country of origin was Brazil as occasionally reported. Gracie mille
