???? Magdalena Andersson "The Brief": What happened to the former Swedish Prime Minister?

On Wednesday, 24 November, the Swedish parliament chose a?new Prime Minister of Sweden. However, the effects of the inauguration?lasted only seven hours.?After that time,?the first woman in history?to hold the post resigned and left office. But what is it that leads a person to leave the highest political office in a country after just a few hours??

Well, the crux of the matter lies in the?state budget.?The Greens, Andersson's partner in government and whose MPs voted for her election as Prime Minister, withdrew their support for the newly elected premier only hours later,?thus forcing her resignation. The reason for this premature break-up of the coalition lies in the?failure of the vote on the general state budgets presented by the coalition?and the approval of the?opposition?budgets, presented jointly by three?centre-right and right-wing?parties.

Andersson had previously shown her predisposition to govern with the opposition's budgets, but her partners, the Greens,?were not in favour?and, ultimately, decided to throw everything in the trash.

But what is it about these budgets that is so unacceptable to the Swedish Greens? Well, they include a?drastic reduction in subsidies for immigrants?and a?large budget allocation for security?and the fight against?organised crime.

Remember that very recently here, in?LexNews, we told you about the?extreme situation?in?which Sweden finds itself in terms of crime, with?almost daily shootings,?bombs,?grenade attacks?and all kinds of very serious acts never before seen at this level in any developed European country.

Despite all this, Andersson was reinstated on 30 November after a new investiture, following her resignation 7 hours after being sworn in on the 24th.

Why is it important?

The social democratic dominance in Sweden?seemed untouchable, but the monster that some of its policies have created could be – and foreseeably will be –?the cause of a huge political crisis. The serious?wave of a lack of public security?in Sweden, particularly in?Stockholm, is?fuelling the rise of the right wing, which could soon be back in power.

For the moment, the right has already managed to make the country work with budgets designed by them. Everything indicates that the?end of the social-democratic era is likely to be consolidated?by the next elections.

Gracias por la interesante información! Gran reflejo de la rapidez política, en algunos casos y en otras realidades. Noticias que por desgracia no llegan a través de los principales canales de comunicación nacionales, que “entretienen” con lo poco que “se decide” relevante.
