Likely the reason members of the MAGA movement would support a dictator is that they actually would like to dictate to others how they should live their lives. They are convinced it is the "others" that are making their lives miserable or threatening their own fragile beliefs in some mythical wizard in the sky. Terrified that the "Leave it to Beaver" days are over, They long to return to the days when White Christian Nationalists ruled societal mores. Fear of others, for which they lack the humility or interest to understand has so overtaken them they they cannot see that it is the system (monetized feudalism) that is weighing on them, not the "others".

I’ve observed that many Americans fail to identify with the social and economic class of which they are de facto a member, but instead identify ( via fantasy?) with the class of which they aspire to be a member. It’s why so many who earn less than $100K a year are ecstatic about Trump giving millionaires and billionaires huge tax reductions.
