Maduro's Repressive Regime is on the Verge of Collapse: Time to Give Him a Nudge.
By all accounts, the repressive regime of Nicolas Maduro continues to unravel. His socialist government is imploding. It has been going on for some time but it is now accelerating such that the regime appears to be on a “death spiral” from which it will not recover. It is time for freedom loving people everywhere to be on the right side of history (and the Venezuelan people) and give Maduro the push he needs to cede power, hopefully without more violence. Here are just a few key signs of the country’s imminent disintegration:
- The oil industry that fuels the Maduro regime is on the verge of collapse: https://www.forbes.com/sites/rrapier/2018/01/19/barring-major-reforms-venezuelas-oil-industry-is-finished/#6275d3f47699
- CNN now considers Venezuela the “world’s most miserable economy” with the financial system in tatters and people unable to take even a dollar out of their bank accounts: https://money.cnn.com/2018/01/17/news/economy/venezuela-cash-crisis/index.html
- The killing of a rebel police officer who challenged the regime is getting wide circulation (and condemnation) in Latin America and elsewhere and may lead to criminal charges against President Maduro by the International Criminal Court: https://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/news-columns-blogs/andres-oppenheimer/article195128724.html
- Malnourishment is now rampant in the country, particularly among children: https://people.com/chica/children-die-of-malnutrition-in-venezuela/
The increasingly desperate situation in Venezuela is being watched closely by democracy activists throughout the hemisphere, in Europe and elsewhere. I urge our political leaders in the US and abroad to send a clear signal to Maduro and his cronies that it is time to go. Get out now while you still have a chance to escape with your lives. Otherwise you risk ending up like Benito Mussolini.
The sooner the Maduro regime collapses, the faster Venezuelans can rebuild their resource-rich country. Help can come from the IMF, the World Bank and other multinational aid organizations. With oil, arable land, fisheries, bauxite (to make aluminum) and iron ore, Venezuela has the ability to bounce back quickly.

7 年Raul, I know you know the pains of Socialism. It purports to make all men equal, and in action takes everything from honorable people and concentrates it in the hands of dictators. That is what Chavez was after his first term, and it is what Maduro is now. Backed by Russia and Iran, with over 100k Venezuelan passports issued to Iranians, that dictatorial government is a threat to world order and the USA. Having lived in Colombia 8 years and traveled extensively in South America, including Venezuela (I was there to aid after the mudslides), I can say the people are hard-working and resilient. That being said, they need our help. The FARC is pushing into Venezuela and could take over during this weak period. It would then become a Communist failed Narco-state. Let's remember, 30% of the Cocaine/heroine that winds up in the US comes thru Venezuela... WAKE up America. Maduro is a clear and present danger to us, Colombia, and the Venezuelan people. Iranian missiles there could certainly hit the USA mainland. And the VP has strong ties to Iran & the Iranian Quds force. And why did Maduro threaten Santos with "he better shut up, lest I tell the people the truth about the peace negotiations"? And why did Santos 'shut up'?
