How to simply explain what is Salesforce and your life around it, specially in a random encounter with non technical someone (could be relatives) ?
Here is a tried and tested recipe:
Q. What is Salesforce ?
You might start with finest Cloud platform, PAAS, SAAS, CRM, ERP. No please !
Ask them - You know iPhone ?
99.99% answer will be big YESSSSS. They will surely say it's amazing and best mobile (I'm Android fan though, but using iPhone as example makes it easy going forward for many reasons). Thats your moment, tell Salesforce is as amazing as an iPhone.
As an iPhone comes with amazing pre-loaded apps for simplifying life, similarly Salesforce comes with awesome prebuilt apps for business processes. At your own risk you try using word "Cloud" along with Salesforce, though it could go in terribly wrong directions, try keeping it simple.
Q. What are you doing with Salesforce ?
Ask again - "You know, Apple's AppStore ?"
Most probably you get an answer "YES". Here comes your moment of proud, and tell that Salesforce's CEO Mr. Mark Benioff sold that "App Store" trademark to legendary Mr. Steve Jobs. #feelgood
Next, explain the way you get some cool apps from AppStore, so as you can get some amazing business apps from Salesforce's AppStore called "AppExchange".
Now, you can tell that, you develop such business apps for AppExchange and world's finest enterprises are the end users. #simple #feelgood
Q. What else you do with Salesforce ?
Ans. Steps going forward totally depends on your mood, state of mind, time in hand and patience levels with that relative, and his ability to grasp.
Hope it helps someday !
