There's a famous old saying that "A king isn't born, he is made." This speaks volumes and reminds us of the fact that even if one is a son of the king and heir to the throne, he doesn't become a king until he has been put through a rigorous development process where he learns the art and science of kingship.
It is only then, after he has graduated this ancient school of kingship, that he is deemed fit to take the throne after his father vacates the seat.
Kings are not born...
We have been thought for many years that people are born with natural traits and characteristics that makes them suitable to pursue certain careers or professions. For example, Nursing and Customer Service require a high level of empathy as people with cold personalities may put patients and customers off.
Having a quantitative acumen would propel an accountant or data analyst to success in his field, and imagination will do same for an artist or artiste.
Those who notice these traits in the lives of people around them, naturally advice them to pursue the careers outlined above, stating that their personalities were made for those professions.
But such a statement presupposes that the making of these personalities for the professions happened at birth or somewhere in their childhood, attributing their suitability for those roles merely to their mien.
This path could be misleading because creative people could become great accountants, and the mathematically-inclined ones could end up as wonderful designers. The possibilities are endless, regardless of what traits are displayed in the formative years.
The formative years...
While some traits show up early in the life of a child, others are recessive and show up much later. But the best traits are the ones that are developed through adversity, after successfully enduring trying times.
It is these developed traits that make you best suited for any purpose you are pursuing. They are what stand you out from those who only have their personalities and education to show for their years on earth.
Those who have been through testing trials and turbulent times in the pursuit of their purpose would always outperform those who haven't. They have built capacities and competencies through overcoming difficulties, and such skills aren't taught in any school anywhere.
Even the privileged training and development available to the king's son to build him up into the best king he could possibly be, is reserved only for the royal class. Those beneath him in the social pyramid, are left with harsh adversity to tutor them to greatness, if they're to stand a chance of sitting on any throne.
The story of King David, the greatest king that ever lived comes to mind. He wasn't next in line to the throne, but had the required experience of slaying a lion and a bear when a giant terrorized the incumbent king and his people, and they needed a saviour.

The king with all his wealth and background, tools and training couldn't stand up and save his people. The boldness that comes with passing through the fire of adversity was absent in the king's life and only present in the life of a peasant.
The only person in the crowd who wasn't afraid and felt equipped to defeat the giant was the one who though had no formal training, yet had all the training required to perform when it mattered most.
This was the individual who didn't go to the best schools or grow up in the best suburbs. He couldn't afford to buy the motivational bestseller "10 ways to kill a giant," but when staring the giant in the face he dealt with him like he had done with all other creatures that stood in his way.
The story of the greatest king that ever lived teaches us that even if we can't get into the ancient school of kingship because we lack the required heritage, we can focus on graduating from the contemporary school of adversity where champions are made!
And if like that greatest king, our loved ones and associates see us as completely unkinglike because our appearance and exposure doesn't portray that of a future king, we will shock them when the time comes, after our secret studies in the school of adversity are showcased by the unprecedented results we achieve on the battlefield of life, after which we'll be crowned right before their eyes.
Dear entrepreneur, don't be fazed by your lack of resources, education or network. If you didn't get them from nature, you can build them from nurture. Don't hold back from pursuing your dream because you lack the platform others were born with or have by association. Your time will come.
And when that time comes, you'll be required to do something extraordinary, something the best education and network cannot prepare you for. So, between now and then, wrap your big dream around your neck like a cape and fly through the harsh clouds of adversity called "the market," and conquer it.
Take it one day at a time and learn from each battle you face, because one day the market will need something novel that only your previously-ignored but now-learned self can provide. This is when your greatness will be displayed for all to see. And trust me, you'll love every moment of it.
To your success,

2 年Are leaders born or made? It is obvious that kings are not born but are made. There should be some tutelage that the son of a king will undergo before he takes over the mantle of leadership from his father.
"If you didn't get it from nature, you can build it by nurture." Great piece of advice for those looking to do extraordinary things.
