Macro Self Care: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Self-care is all the rage these days. You may be tired of hearing about it, or you may honestly feel that you don't have the time or money to do it. And for most of us, that's probably true. My fellow trekker pointed out that those subliminal as well as overt messages to spend money on self-care is capitalism at work. But despite companies and cruise lines wanting to dig into your pockets there are valid advantages of macro-self care
Self-care is not just about bubble baths and yoga. It's about taking care of your whole self, physically, mentally, and emotionally. One of the biggest advantages of macro self-care is that it provides excitement and anticipation to life. It gives you something to look forward to, and it can help you break out of a rut. Activities like vacations, spa days, and concerts can provide new life experiences, a new frame of mind, and exposure to new situations or settings.
Of course, there are also some disadvantages to macro self-care. It can be time-consuming and expensive, and it can be difficult to know where to start. But if you're willing to put in the time and effort, macro self-care can be a valuable addition to your life. It was another girl trekker that taught me to put myself on my calendar just like anything else in life, mark it busy and let your family know ahead of time. You shouldn’t have to hide it from others that you are enjoying yourself. In this week’s Monday motivation Girl Trekker Vanessa tells us to “Beware of the people who tell you your healing has to look like suffering.” Self-care shouldn’t be inserted only after a breakup. It should be incorporated into your routine. A yearly routine is a routine none the less. Although it requires money and long-term planning it can be done.
Tips for incorporating macro self-care into your routine:
? Make time for yourself. This may seem obvious, but it's important to schedule time for self-care in your calendar just like you would any other appointment. For me this is just my daily walk in the park, for now at least.

? Set a budget. Self-care doesn't have to be expensive, but it's important to set a budget so you don't overspend. Don’t be afraid to tell your crew you just don’t have it.
? Be creative. There are endless possibilities when it comes to macro self-care.?Find activities that you enjoy and that fit your budget. Learn when the least expensive months to travel are and plan on leaving mid-week instead of the weekend.
? Don't be afraid to ask for help. If you're struggling to make time for self-care, don't be afraid to ask for help from your friends, family, or therapist. If you have a friend that consistently travels ask them how they do it!
Self-care is an investment in yourself. It's something that you deserve, and it's something that will pay off in the long run. So don't be afraid to put yourself first and make time for self-care. You won't regret it. Until tomorrow here’s something to think about.
