During his first appearance as CEO during a quarterly financial earnings report, Google's new CEO Sundar Pichai said machine learning was a "priority" for the company.
"Machine learning is a core transformative way by which we are rethinking everything we are doing," Pichai said during the call. "We've been investing in this area for a while. We believe we are state-of-the-art here. And the progress particularly in the last two years has been pretty dramatic."
His comments echo some made previously by Eric Schmidt, now executive chairman of Alphabet, the new Google organization.
