Machine Design Trends 2024

Design 2024 – lush, sensual and narrative

Technology has never played such a big role in the creative process of agencies. Whether creating text or images, artificial intelligence can be simultaneously a decisive differentiator and a concern for irrelevant monotony.

AI tools will be an indispensable companion in the design process, bringing us advantages in speed and efficiency. But good design and creative solutions that inspire people only come from real people.”

The design trend that I find most remarkable at the moment is that of 'Frutiger Aero' because it very well reflects the needs that concern us in a politically and socially challenging time. The escapist ideal world style that emerged for digital media in the 2000s can be playfully translated into a contemporary aesthetic.

And for the OEM, the machine manufacturer?

Machines are becoming more and more like devices due to advancing automation, i.e. the use of sensors and intelligent controls. Modern factories also resemble clean, cleanroom-like environments with brighter and fresher colors in the interior to create a pleasant working environment. Not only art on the wall and beautiful materials in the office, but also on the work floor where it happens.

This trend encourages friendly design of machines and equipment, as has of course been the case for consumer products for a long time. Friendly-looking machines - sometimes tough and robust because of the heavy-duty processes that take place in them - that are easy to operate.

These convincing and human-looking machines therefore fit better into the modern, clear production environment. Machine builders can explore 3D printers, laboratory equipment, high-quality processing machines, and robotics.

Equipment, clear lines, and simple UX-design

Light colors, clear design language with fresh color accents such as 'Frutiger Aero' for the digital world.

Color of the year: 'What is PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz?'

PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz captures our desire to nurture ourselves and others. It's a velvety gentle peach tone whose all-embracing spirit enriches mind, body, and soul.

In seeking a hue that echoes our innate yearning for closeness and connection, we chose a color radiant with warmth and modern elegance. A shade that resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace, and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless.

Roughly summarized, it is a creative style in screen design from the 2000s, in which objects from the analog world were simulated for the digital world to reduce fear of the then virtual world. The screen design created futuristic-looking, hyperreal compositions that showed a beautiful, intact and yet accessible surreal world in which people, nature and technology have entered into a perfect and harmonious symbiosis. It was an inclusive world in which everyone could participate. If you look at the current developments with ChatGPT, Midjourney & Co., we once again find ourselves in a time of digital unrest that brings with it fear of enormous changes. It's no surprise that this style has a wide following and echoes of it can be found in all areas of design.
