Narcissists and Manipulators - combatting their traits?

Having recently began studies in religion, sociology, philosophy, and psychology, I found the study of human behaviour and their traits interesting. Perhaps after reading this, you are able to recognise these traits and consider what they are trying to achieve?

Philosophy and sociology are intertwined. Famous philosophers like, Marcus Aurelius, Plato, Aristotle, and Niccolo Machiavelli wrote much about how people behaved then. Machiavelli was a courtroom diplomat and writer of the tales The Prince and the Discourses of Livy in the 1500s, highlighting how power corrupts. These traits were sources for the play Gas Light, by Patrick Hamilton, 1938, and movie Gaslight, 1944.

Only after reading these books do these traits look more obvious, Gaslighting, The narcissist's favorite tool of manipulation, Dr. Theresa J. Covert, 2019, and Gaslighting, by Dr. Stephanie Sarkis, 2020 for example does anyone resemble this:

  • Manipulation, flaw finding, and constant criticism - are used in cult-conversion, domestic abuse, and bullying, by insecure people to force change.
  • Withholding funding or assistance, creation of ambiguity, confusion, and a knowledge vacuum - used to remove competition and create a need that you want them.
  • Coercion, ego-trippers, and power-abusers are examples exposed by deposed Hollywood moguls, presidents, premiers, and dictators.
  • The flying monkeys and triangulators (see Psychology today) indicate behaviours to watch out for when they begin to exert control - have you experienced these?

These methods are designed to divide and conquer those cost relationships. The recent deliberate harassment of TV actress Caroline Flack resulted in her personal ill-health and (it can be argued) led to her ultimate suicide due to similar behaviours. So how do you tackle and change these behaviours - read on:

We, humans, are social creatures and perhaps this explains why the 2020's isolation is affecting us. Where people deliberately isolate others, makes it difficult to overcome imposed challenges, and why narcissistic division and exclusion must be counteracted. Seek help and don't suffer in silence.
