Macbook Pro Refresh

This week Apple have snuck in an update to their Macbook Pro product line. This is for the Touchbar models and is the second time that these models have received a refresh. Whilst I aim to target my content to the masses, this week you will have to excuse me while I “geek out”.
Most of the hard work in this refresh has gone under the hood, so to look at you are not really going to notice any changes. From using the new Macbook you will notice two main items that aren’t performance based. This includes an updated keyboard which is quieter and True Tone technology in the display which allows for colours to adapt to your environment.
For those who are looking for more horsepower, this update is for you. This step up has finally brought the 15” variant (starting at $3,499) into the realm of DDR4 memory. Unfortunately, the 13” has retained the same DDR3 RAM as previous generation.
Fortunately for both sizes, this update has introduced the 8th Generation Intel CPU’s to the Macbook Pro Touchbar line up. The base CPU in 13” being the i5 with i7 as an option, while the 15” comes standard with an i7 processor as was the case with previous generation. The big change here is that the new base model i7 is now a six-core rather than the predecessor’s quad-core.
The new intel i9-8950HK is now also available as an upgrade on the 15” models, this is a powerhouse and whilst the upgrade cost will set you back $600 – the intense users will appreciate this.
Finally, Apple have brought into play some huge storage options and are now providing up to a 4TB Flash storage option. At a monstrous $5,440 upgrade cost over the standard 512GB, this is going to be very hard for most to justify.
Is it time for an upgrade? Well if you need more power out of your Macbook Pro or that keyboard noise is a little over the top – than yes…yes it is.
