Maatram Foundation - Batch of 2025 Career Guidance

Maatram Foundation has been focusing on building a holistic development of a student for the society. With 85% of our students coming from first generation graduates, getting into the professional journey after the college education is critical to transform their families. After their college degree, getting a job for most of the students is an important milestone.

Maatram Foundation and its core team members have been working towards to enable the kids to prepare for the industry-oriented skills. For example, a team focus on building COEs to groom and train the students on global certification and our Maatram Alumni Association has a training team grooming the students to equip them with the necessary skills for the interviews.

One of the initiatives is conducting base assessment at their pre-final year for both Engineering and Arts & Science students. We conducted a mock interview for all the placement interested students on August 31st and September 1st, 2024. The approach was shared to the students, communicated about the importance of the assessments, mock-interviews, and feedback to be shared.

We had close to 270 students participated in the career guidance workshop with separate sessions / mock-interviews for the

- Arts & Science students with Finance roles focus

- Arts & Science students focused on IT roles focus

- Engineering students with IT industry roles focus

- Engineering students with Core & IT industry roles focus

- Engineering students with Core industry, we will need help in this track to have career guidance with these students.

We had industry experts deep diving into these focus areas providing career guidance for the students.

Our Core Member, Princely Samuel kicked off the day requesting the students to set the vision, outlining the agenda, expectations from the students and the takeaways. This was a good icebreaker and impactful session for the students before venturing to the technical sessions.

SARAVANAN CA , Head of Finance, Sagent India took Finance & Accounting job roles for the students focusing on starting their career in the Finance side. Saravanan also took time to explain his impactful personal journey and took the students on the importance of pursuing professional courses on the Finance, Accounting and Secretarial credentials. This session provided the students to understand their passion and various areas to contribute to the Corporate Finance. SARAVANAN CA ’s two-hour session deep dived into the various career path the students can pursue in the corporate roles and the professional courses.

kannan selvaraj , an industry expert, on building products for Computer Networks guided the students to pursue career in the core engineering part in the field of Electronics & Communications. kannan selvaraj comes with an immense work experience from Cisco, Extreme Networks, HCL Tech, Celestica and owns patents in this field. Kannan also gave an overview on how the industry product has scaled into multi-disciplinary and cross- functional with students needing to learn the core engineering concepts with the programming concepts. Kannan also explained different companies the students should pursue, skills required to apply in these companies and preparation path towards the same. It was an insightful session with lot of students came up to pursue their career in the field of Networking.

Balaji Krishnamurthy is an SME in the automobile manufacturing industry, Greenfield project expert with extensive experience in industry automation. Balaji Krishnamurthy gave an overview of the manufacturing process, supply chain basics and how critical it is for the manufacturing industry. Balaji provided an overview of the skills, techniques, tools and frameworks required for a fresh graduate to be equipped before venturing into the core engineering manufacturing space. Balaji shared relevant information for the students to understand the organization which are being attracted by the state, explained the job roles and responsibilities and the Naan Mudhalvan - TN Skill courses relevant to the core engineering students. Balaji also emphasized the importance of viewing the industry automation getting embedded with the technology and students to have an open mind to learn & adapt to the project needs. Great session with lot of takeaways for the students.

Vinu Viswanathan and Naren Sundram were covering the organization structure of the technology product organizations, technology organization within various verticals like Financial Services, Manufacturing, Media and the IT Consulting organizations. We had an opportunity to explain the job roles, responsibilities, understanding the organization culture and technology stack from the job description. We explained about applying for the job position, career path and leveraging LinkedIn for the job search.

Post these sessions, we had our Maatram Alumni members and the Volunteers to conduct mock interview with all the students to understand the interest areas, career guidance, support required and motivation to the students. It’s always overwhelming to experience the love and affection shown by our Alumni & our Volunteers.

In this occasion, we wanted to thank Xobin for providing their technical assessment platform free for Maatram Foundation . This platform has created a significant impact for our training team as we are scaling to run assessments to close to 400+ students this year. Xobin were kind enough to provide the platform and available to support us on need basis. Thank you Guruprakash Sivabalan from Xobin for the support. Great stuff.

Our Core Maatram Members Princely Samuel , Sindhu and our office team were instrumental for the flawless execution of the event with coordinating with the students across the State, Alumni Members, Volunteers from Corporate, and the coordinators.

Sujith Kumar , Founder, Maatram Foundation spoke about the current expectations of the industry to hire a graduate, understanding the job roles from an organization irrespective of the preparation, and leveraging these training programs.

Fulfilling day for Maatram Foundation and volunteers as we gear up for the upcoming year’s training and placement, the strategy and the plan to execute are crucial as our foundation scales to support more students each year.

?Actions to Inspire: Looking forward to connecting with the industry firms who are willing to collaborate in below areas:

1. Industry Visits: Providing Career Guidance session to the Engineering / Arts & Science Graduates in the Core Engineering / Operations area. This could be an overview career session for an hour with the students. This can be virtual / in-person based on the number of students to accommodate. Office Visits enable these students to vision their career.

2. Internship opportunities: Provide internship interview opportunity to participate and learn during the internship period to enable the students with required job skills.

3. Hiring Opportunities: Hire candidates based on the internship performance and provide interview opportunities to participate in the Full-time job opportunity.

4. Career Guidance: Companies can share their technical skills or technical stack to the Maatram team and train the students ahead of the internship or job interview opportunity. This has significantly reduced the training period of the students and quick deployment to the production.
