Customer defined fields (CDF’s) can be used to add customer specific fields to M3 database without modification. For these type of scenarios, traditional approach is to have an extension table for the standard M3 table. With new M3 13.x extensibility approach, we can perform these types of scenarios without a M3 modification.
Let’s take a scenario. We need add new field “Cut off days’ to Item warehouse (MM002/MITBAL) master. This is a numeric field. Let’s see how we can go about doing this using CDF’s.
Step 1: Define the new field in CMS080.
Define the field properties.
Step 2: Add the field M3 panel.
Go to the desired M3 panel, then select Tools -> Personalize -> Custom Fields.
Available custom fields will be displayed.
You can drag and drop the field in to the M3 Panel and press Save.
That’s all you need to do. Now field is available to be used. simple isn’t it ?
Data stored in CUGEX1 table.
Please take note, customer defined fields are only available in H5.
Let’s look at some more features of customer defined fields in the next article.
