M?lnlycke Kulim High-Tech Factory Opening

By Keah Hong Ng

Last September, M?lnlycke opened its new Biogel manufacturing facility in Kulim, Malaysia. In this series of blog posts, we hear from members of the factory’s team to learn what the new facility means to them, and how it is supporting them in producing industry leading Biogel surgical gloves. Today, we hear from Keah Hong Ng, Technical Integration Manager at the Kulim Hi-Tech plant.??

I’ve worked as a Technical Integration Manager at M?lnlycke for seven years. My ambition when joining was to apply the knowledge I’d built over several years in the latex industry to the Biogel range to help our teams develop the very best tool for surgeons and other healthcare workers around the world. As a multinational company headquartered in Sweden, it would be natural to feel distant from the center of the business, but my experience couldn’t be more different. M?lnlycke has a long and rich history with Malaysia and this newest Hi-Tech factory in Kulim is the fourth in the country. I’m proud to be part of an organization with such an amazing culture and working environment, full of enthusiastic people across every role.??

In developing Biogel gloves, I interact with departments and colleagues from across the whole business, from regulatory to marketing. The safety of our customers is always our number one priority and flows through everything we do. When we develop a new addition to the Biogel range, we work hard to ensure that it meets strict international requirements. Part of our job is to provide the manufacturing team with the most accurate information and specifications to support them in creating the very best Biogel products for our customers.?

The way we cooperate with colleagues across the business is one of the primary reasons I’m so excited to have moved to the new facility, as it’s the perfect site to allow us to collaborate and innovate together. From an R&D perspective my team and I support every team in the new factory, from Regulatory, to Validations and Quality Management Systems. We work closely with our Engineers, Manufacturing Specialists and Quality Assurance teams. We are excited to be working in a facility that brings in the very latest innovations in design, technology and sustainability.??

At M?lnlycke, we know the importance of creating a healthcare industry which supports not only the needs of patients, but the health of the planet. Ensuring that a resource-intensive production line such as Biogel reduces its environmental impact runs through every design element of the factory, helping us to decarbonize our manufacturing process in line with the company’s Sustainability Roadmap 2030. Our vision also allows us to be innovative in introducing new efficiencies in manufacturing and design, helping us support the needs of our customers now and in the decades ahead.?

As professionals, we are shaped by the environments in which we operate, and one year on from the new Kulim Hi-Tech plant opening I can confidently say it supports us to bring in new ways of working, communication, and collaboration. With all our teams under one roof, supported by new facilities, sustainable architecture and processes, we are hopeful of continuing our success, innovating Biogel and supporting our company to meet the healthcare challenges of the future.
