The luxury dividends you NEED to cash in on (I can explain)

The luxury dividends you NEED to cash in on (I can explain)

I find it REALLY hard to treat myself.

But my fiancee? He's MASTERED this life skill!

Even when he was backpacking through South America many moons ago, he'd always save just enough money so on his last night, he could stay at a 5 star hotel.

And every year for my birthday he books a ridiculous hotel and the loveliest dinner. On one occasion, he surprised me with business class flights.

AMAZING, right? But while I should have been enjoying my present, all could think was - I don’t need a business class ticket!  THIS IS WAY TOO EXTRAVAGANT!

To be fair, we had an epic weekend reading books by the pool. I came back to work rejuvenated, rested and excited to tackle the week ahead.

But I would never naturally think to do things like that. I’d see it as frivolous, wasteful.

But slowly, I'm trying to change my mindset on this.

I'm reframing this concept away from 'spoilt' and towards the fact that actually - investing in yourself pays dividends.

A while back, a friend suggested I speak to a certain business coach. And then - he told me the price tag:  TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS!

$10,000 - THAT’S HEFTY - RIGHT?!? That’s the price of a CAR. Why would ANYONE drop that sort of cash on a coach?!

Now, I get it. Here’s why:

After literally just a few sessions - I had already made back that $10,000.

After a year - I’d turned that $10,000 into $50,000.

I gave him $10,000 and his advice gave me $50,000. I’d say that was a stellar investment!

Rationally, it makes sense. But sometimes the thing I find hardest thing about investing in myself? Believing I am worthy.

A lot of people (like me!) struggle to believe we can and SHOULD spend money to be supported, to be coached, to be focus on ourselves.

Sometimes partners or friends hold us back or guilt us into not taking that step. But sometimes - we hold ourselves back.

When I first met with that coach I was thinking - WHY SHOULD I SPEND THIS MONEY?

Now I like to think - WHY WOULDN'T I!

  • That investment meant we can now afford to rent a bigger apartment
  • It allowed me to further support my 2 favorite charities.
  • And it provided me the freedom to host an epic party for family & friends that year (pre covid times!)

There was a cost to me moving forward and there will be for you too. But there is also an opportunity cost to inaction

So - this weekend, I have a challenge for you:

What ONE STEP do you need to take this weekend to move forward?

And what might you miss out on... if you don't?

I’d love to hear from you - let me know in the comments below!

Have an awesome weekend - you’ve earned it!

Meggie

PS. Today I hosted an Ask Me Anything session with Graduates from the previous PepTalkHer CAREER LEVEL UP program.

This was an EPIC chat! (My fave was Alicia's used car salesman comment!) You can check it out HERE.

Also, our 10 week program intake is closing this weekend! Interested? Send me a DM for more info, or Use code LETSDOTHIS for $1000 off

As you know, I'm all about dividends & return on investment. At less than $100 a week, the investment led to a 3x, 30x & 104x ROI for the last cohort - I reckon that's not bad!

Love this. My husband does a similar thing... Just with time. He'll take a day or a week away from work to do something he loves - which seemed a huge luxury. It's been such a freeing experience for me to give myself more time.

Love it. Thanks for the invite Meggie Palmer, happy to share all the value add & ROI. Your post reminded me about a quote I read somewhere - “dividends (not diamonds) are a girls best friend”! It was fun getting back with the crew and revise all the concepts! We need this dose periodically ??

I have a few thoughts bubbling away in my head (where they've been stuck for way too long)...and reading this was just what I needed to encourage me to start some important conversations to move things forward a bit. Great post and reminder, Meggie! Have a good weekend :)
