Lust, Sex and the our Misguided Attempts to Emulate God
If we look at life objectively, we will come to realize that a large majority of our human lives are spent discovering new stimulations and satisfying urges.
The primary urge we constantly need to satisfy is our hungers.
We hunger for food, hunger for attention, hunger for power, hunger for love, hunger for validation and hunger for sex. Second to survival, our hunger for sex is probably one of the, if not the strongest urge we have as human beings, especially as men.
Having a sexual experience with an ideal partner gives us great physical pleasure, attention, connection, it provides validation for our egos and it gives us a sense of confidence in ourselves.
Outside of simply satisfying a feeling, how often do we think about what we are really doing when this energy overtakes us and we indulge in this urge?
From a scienfitic standpoint, the primary biological purpose of sexual intercourse is to procreate. All animals have a natural set of tools to replicate their DNA for the long-term survival of the species.
Procreation is the act of creating new life so the energy exchanged between two people in the process is very powerful because it can create a new physical body for a soul to be born into. In the process of enguaging in this act, we take on the energy of another person so each party gives one another a small part of their spirits.
In the shadows of the physical act, one thing we do not typically think about is what happens on an energetic and spiritual level. The act of physically connecting with another body opens our consciousness to a higher energy in a powerful moment of bliss. This is the moment we are seeking in our interaction with another. This powerful moment of bliss gives us a rush of energy and brings our minds, bodies and spirits to a new height for a brief moment in time. We feel pleasure and ecstacy that is second to no other feeling we commonly know.
The word ecstasy is rooted in the word ecstatic, which means to be very excited with a sense of joy and bliss. We seek physical ecstasy because our bodies serve as a vehicle within which we can experience the power of this energy. Therefore, if we were to look deeper into ourselves past the physical urge of the body, we will discover that our urge to seek sex is our attempt to connect with the divine and have a moment where we experience a higher energy.
We do this because it gives us a chance to emulate the creator through peforming the act of creating life, whether that is our intention or not. Most often times when we enguage in this activity in the modern day though dating apps and "casual" experiences, procreation is the last thing we actually want to happen despite it being the biological purpose of the act we are enguaging in.
If this drive we have to fulfill this urge to emulate God through sex was not powerful, then why have so many religions tried to regulate it?
Why has it caused so much strife and chaos in the lives of countless people throughout generations?
Why have so many friendships, relationships and futures been destroyed because of it?
Why is it almost everywhere we see in advertising?
When we become addicted to sex and disrespect its sacred nature, we fall into the trap of lust. When we are in the the trap of lust, we seek to emulate the creator, but end up finding his wayward son.
Much like Hitler wanting a better future for his county and turning into a mass murderer, we must recognize that the path to hell is paved in good intentions.
We may think "its just a hook up" or "I just got laid"or "I just want to have a little fun". However, over time if we keep doing this kind of thing, rather than connecting with another person, over time we eventually seek to use them as a tool to satisfy our urges, to conquer them and to ultimately consume a part of their spirits.
That is why people say "I f*cked her/him". It sounds like we describe it as if we took something from them or conquered them in a way.
The problem is that the urge does not subside when we fulfill it, it grows and wants to consume more. It is like trying to put out a fire by pouring gasoline on it. The more we “hook up” with others in lust, the more we seek to conquer more people and the more want to consume more bodies. The more we indulge in it, we inevitably make meaningless attempts to quench an insatiable thirst.
Unlike the feeling of hunger for food, the hunger for sex grows with each person we consume. Each time taking a part of someone else while losing a part of ourselves in the process. Over time the longer we stay in this trap, the longer we get caught in the energy of consuming others, so naturally we will only attract those who want to consume us as well. Whether we realize it or not, we think we are winning yet we are also losing as well. We will lose our ability to value a person, we will lose our ability to be honest and we will lose our ability to have a genuine connection with another human being that is not based on our urge to conquer and consume them.
One key thing that we need to do in our quest to seek higher awareness and to evolve is learn to master our urges through mastering our energy, our thoughts and our words. If we realize that the urge for sex is simply an energy in the body that translated into pervese thoughts by the mind, we can learn to reframe the thoughts around that energy. We can learn to take control of that energy and use its power for other purposes.
Think about the energy we put into chasing meaningless sex, self pleasure and finding a new person to give us our fix. Some devote their entire lives to the pursuit of this kind of thing only to come up empty handed and depressed when the do not succeed.
If you do not think so, then I challenge you to observe the behavior of young men out at a bar or club on ladies night in a major city. You will find that they are like hungry wolves planning a strategic heist to get a young woman to come home with them. Wasting their money on drinks and making attempts to peacock themselves as the best choice for a night of fun.
We all know the feeling. It is powerful enough to drive men to kill one another or even bring down an empire.
Imagine if we can harness that energy and redirect that same vigor and passion towards other apsects of our lives. If we were to pursue our goals, our enlightenment and our spiritual practice with the same vigor that we would pursue a sexual experience with an attractive partner, imagine what power we would have and what we could accomplish?
If we devoted the same energy we devote to hooking up and climaxing to our meditation practice, our work, our hobbies, our sports or our studies, imagine how far we could go?
We must realize that lust is a trap. One can escape from it by recognizing the fact that the it is mind's translation of an energy in the body into perverse thoughts associated with sex. When we combine the energy with perverse thoughts, we fall into lustful desires. However, when we learn to isolate the energy itself as simply a feeling in the body, then channel it towards fruitful activities, we will be able to tap into great power.
The ability to do this is what separates humans from animals and men from kings. This is one of the highest forms of taking our power back and stepping into who we truly are.
It is very difficult and it requires great discipline. In doing so we are tapping into a power that can bring our lives to new heights. The great yogis, sages, priests and seers all utilize this practice when seeking a connection to God. It is not the denial of sexual energy, it is the denial of perverse thoughts so we can use our sexual energy for the purpose of growth.
When we learn to master this energy, master our mind's urges, reframe our desire and tap into the deepest level of our personal power, we connect to a very powerful energy.
If not, if we choose not to do this, fall into lust and live life to satisfy our urges, we reside ourselves to a life of perpetual cycles of hunger and escape. We become a slave to our urges and will ultimately have to suffer the karma that we create.
Unwanted children, dysfunctional toxic relationships, STD's, broken families and broken hearts are all a result of us not mastering our urges.
If you do not think so, take a look at the life of one who has fallen into the slavery lust. You will usually find suffering, lonliness, strife and chaos in the shadows of the glamor and pleasure.
For every action, there is a consequence so choose wisely and do not be fooled by the tricks of the eyes or the prisons of our desires.
