Lunch Line Inequality: While the World Expands Free School Meals, the U.S. Lets Go Hungry

The U.S. House Ways and Means Committee—a powerful group in Congress—wants to slash $12 billion from school meal programs. This isn’t just a budget cut. This is a step backward, a return to a time when kids were singled out for being poor, and forced to stand in different lunch lines, while others ate without worry.

How do you study with a curling, empty stomach? How do you focus on math, reading, or dreams of a better future when hunger gnaws at you? Where is the equality in that? Kids learn together—they should eat together too, just like families do. School meals aren't a privilege—they’re a necessity. No child should have to feel ashamed just because their family struggles.

This isn’t just about money. It’s about dignity, fairness, and the simple right to a meal. We can’t let this happen.

?? Contact your Congress member today! Tell them: No cuts to school meals. No child should go hungry at school. Call, email, speak out—our kids deserve better.

I have no words. Just a sad and heavy heart.
