On Lumos Staff: Bea Crayford

The part I love most about my work is finding the story and bringing it out. Whether it is crafting a case study from information sent over by our in-country teams?or writing an internal comms piece for our staff audience, I love storytelling, and finding the exact words to create the right kind of impact is always a challenge I am keen to take on.?

The work achievement I am most proud of would probably be from my previous?role, when?I single-handedly designed and delivered a digital campaign for Volunteer’s Week. It was?definitely a?challenge taking on all aspects of the campaign,?but I learned a lot about?every stage of?the process and was really happy with the end result. I’ve only been at Lumos for a short while but I’m already getting stuck into all sorts of projects and am excited to see where they?take?us. If you ask me again?in a year?what work?achievement?I’m most proud of, I’m sure I’m going to have lots of new answers to choose from!?

?I’m constantly striving for self-improvement.?Whether that is personally or professionally,?I am always reflecting on how I can better myself.?There are two quotes I try to live by:?

‘Don’t let how long something takes put you off doing it – the time will pass anyway’

‘You don’t lose if you learn from your mistakes’.?

Just to bring this piece full circle (in a typical storytelling way), something that makes me truly happy is the feeling that something I have done has had real impact.?That could be?doing something thoughtful for a friend that makes them?smile, or?hearing?that?a story I’ve written has inspired?someone.??

?Another thing that makes me happy – which is certainly not unique to me – is when I feel a moment of connection or ‘togetherness’.?From?brainstorming with a colleague to?watching Bake Off with my partner.?These are the moments that really?bring true, unadulterated happiness,?and it really drives it home for me?–?that this is what we are fighting for, for children around the world to be able to enjoy?these moments of togetherness that?we all need.?
