Today was a bittersweet day as Lulu found her forever home! Fostering dogs is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It's never easy to say goodbye, but knowing Lulu has found the perfect family makes my heart swell with happiness. There were several people interested in adopting Lulu, but I knew that Sarah and Kyle were her people. Tonight, Sarah texted me: "She's snoring on the bed so comfy ?? we are in love with her." This is music to my soul.
Lulu is blessed to have the best family ever, and Lulu’s new family is truly blessed to have her. While I will miss her dearly, I am overjoyed to see her thrive. My heartfelt gratitude goes out to Sarah and Kyle for opening their hearts and home to Lulu. Knowing she is with such wonderful people who will cherish and care for her means the world to me.
Lulu came into the Goleta shelter Santa Barbara County Animal Services on February 11th with a broken leg that had been broken for a while. When I first saw her, she was very skinny, and it was clear she was in a lot of pain. From that very moment, I felt a special connection with her. Thanks to K-9 PALS - K-9 Placement and Assistance League, Inc., who play a crucial role in helping the shelter by funding medical care for dogs like Lulu, she had a chance at life. Other shelters would probably euthanize a dog like Lulu. They cover the costs of surgeries, medications, and other treatments that are beyond the shelter's verylimited budget. Without K-9 PALS, Lulu's life-saving surgeries would not have been possible. It truly takes a village. I encourage everyone to visit their website and DONATE so that they can continue to care for dogs with medical needs: https://www.k-9pals.org.
I'm so grateful to volunteer at the Santa Barbara County AnimalShelter. The staff is amazing, and I'm so grateful for them taking the absolute best care of her when she was on site in Santa Barbara and Santa Maria. Thank you to Cynthia for taking the absolute best care of her post-surgery. I feel so grateful to have been in the presence of this resilient, loving, beautiful girl. Lulu, and I'm so glad she does not have an ID number anymore; she has the best home I could ever dream for her. Two nurses who are already falling in love with her, who are not afraid to pick her up when she gets tired, who want to learn doggy sign language, and give her the best possible life. I'm grateful for our foster coordinator and volunteer Victoria, who brought her up to Santa Maria, where she underwent a leg amputation, diaphragmatic hernia repair (her liver was inside her chest), and spay surgery. She came out of it like a champ! And thank you to Victoria Feld for letting me know she was in Santa Barbara so I could scoop her up from the shelter, take her home, love on her, and start her physical therapy.

I try not to fall in love with my foster dogs, but I fail each time, and this time, I failed BIG time. I fell completely in love with Lulu. Despite being three-legged and deaf, Lulu is a beautiful soul with so much love to give. She is sensitive, loving, and kind, getting along with everyone she meets—humans and dogs alike. I'm so thankful for the Santa Barbara County Animal Services and K-9 PALS for saving her life.
Thank you to everyone who has supported Lulu’s journey. Your support makes a world of difference.
With gratitude,
Ellie
