Lucapa’s diamond mine Lulo in Angola is known to produce the most expensive diamonds per carat price. Recently open for production, this plant has a lot of industry experts hoping this mine pays off. Last year they uncovered a “4th February Stone” diamond which they found on the date it is named after. This extremely rare diamond weighing 404 carats is a product of alluvial mining. The stone sold for $16 million dollars, which is a whopping $39,580 per carat. Lulo mine shows no signs of slowing down either, with consistent output of type IIA diamonds along with a few fancies and now new technology to detect 1,000 carats and up stones. We predict some stones mined here will end up in polished form on the Virtual Diamond Boutique platform.
