N.B. Hyperconnectivity is coming - and many many more connected devices .......

For?some, home is a place to disconnect. For a growing number of startups, though, it’s a place for?hyperconnectivity.

?

Founders spent years developing building blocks for a?seamless smart home—from?smart toilets?and?tools, to?smart forks?and?fixtures, to?smart blinds?and?beds?(and?mattresses), to?smart storage?and?showers—and they’re imagining future homes with?ambient intelligence?that’s both?invisible?and?ubiquitous.

?

Washington-based?Wyze?raised a?$110M Series B?from Jay Z and others to expand on its line of 30?affordable smart home devices. Founded in 2017 by a trio of Amazon veterans, the company offers?AI-embedded security cameras?and a video doorbell that protects suburbanites from?flaming bags of poop.

?

California-based?Level Room?used?$100M in Series C funding?from Walmart and others to?acquire?another smart home startup and add?new abilities to personalize homes. The company got started in 2016 with an “invisible smart lock” designed to look like a normal door lock and has since expanded to serve commercial property owners.

?

Infogrid?(they’re hiring) raised?$16M Series A?to?retrofit buildings with “smart” IoT.?San Francisco-based?Puls, founded in 2015, raised?$15M?to expand its?on-demand home repair?service to more U.S. cities. Edinburgh, Scotland-based?Boundary?raised?$3M?in seed funding for its?DIY smart home security system.

?

Colorado-based?Josh.ai?(they’re hiring) is capitalizing on public distrust of big tech platforms with a?home assistant alternative to Alexa?that just received?$11M?in backing.

?

Despite all this at-home innovation, modern home owners still wonder:?Where is the robotic butler?

?

So far Amazon’s delivered “Astro,” a $1k personal security guard/selfie taker that lacks the intelligence and dexterity of?Rosey?from “The Jetsons.”?

?

Don’t worry, says Israel’s?Unlimited Robotics?…?Gary is coming.
