The Ludicrous Goings-On
As I suspected, once I published my new listing early this morning which is located at 110 - 20th SE , the text messages and phone calls started coming in about an hour afterwards and continued on for the remainder of my day, and as of right now it looks like we'll have it under contract before the weekend is out. As my dear friend said, and it's true, “That home has good bones.”
Thinking I'd have at least my morning free to get some work done on my project, it didn't end up happening, and only because I had to run out and show 110 - 20th SE to a prospective buyer, and then run back out again to take photos of the roof and text them to a selling agent, who did end up writing an offer on it. I've decided to allow additional showings, just in case something happens with the closing of the current buyer's home. I knew we had a huge shortage of under $100,000 homes in Mason City, but I didn't think it that bad, until I posted that listing today. My heart does go out to those first-time buyers who've been priced out of today's market.
I did have a nice soulful chat with my dear friend this morning who sometimes knows me better than I know myself. As much as I've worked at shedding the severe pains which were purposely given to me by a number nameless entities over the course of a decade, my dear friend soulfully pointed out that some of it's still there, and will likely never be fully expunged. Her words were true, but I also added, “I would've been completely over it all if they'd not said and done things that went to my core, which created lasting scars.” Not to worry, I've got it all sorted out and memory-coded where it belongs, just so I can continue on with my job of living. Like I've said a number of times, the most dangerous animals in the world are close relatives and friends, because if a relationship with one or all of them happens to go south, they know exactly which hurting buttons to push, and do they push, and push and push some more.
The bulk of my afternoon was spent showing four properties to a family whom I've worked with in the past, and every time we're together, the lightheartedness comes out, which makes for some really good conversation. Of course we're all good at making a little fun of the so-called improvements many homeowners do to their homes which they must consider being their own personal decorating touches, and today offered up a number of them which had us rolling our eyes over. I dare say some really need to stop watching HDTV because as far as I'm concerned, it's giving bad ideas to homeowners which in the end, lessens the values of their homes. Whomever came up with the idea of painting kitchen and bathroom countertops, needs to be given a good talking to because there are a number of uneducated buyers who think they're looking at new Formica, when it's not. What really 'wowed' us today, was seeing a kitchen tile floor that was painted white. Ouch!
An unexpected call came in this afternoon from a funeral director asking if I'd be willing to play the organ for a funeral service next week, and of course I agreed. Having not spoken with him in a very long time, wicked me couldn't help asking, “Are you knocking them dead with you business?” Yes, there was slight pause before I heard a chuckle, and before we hung up I brought up a certain funeral where the minister was wearing antique vestments and just about choking everyone to death with the overuse of his hand-held incense burner as he was circling that poor soul's casket. Yes, I've been to some pretty interesting funerals over the years, which could be an added chapter of a book I really should get started writing. I'm sure you've already come to realize that people either love me or hate me, and only because I get a little vocally wicked sometimes with my observations of the ludicrous goings-on I find taking place on a daily basis. Just remember, we all have to have a little fun. Right?
Tonight's One-liner is: Our dead are never dead to us, until we've forgotten them.
