LUCY – An Evolution in Transparent LED

Whoever has been following LANG over the past year surely has noticed that MUXWAVE has been a recurring theme. And with good reason: the transparent LED panel is a product that attracts the attention of its surroundings in terms of video quality, flexibility, and appearance. Now, LUCY is a further development that turns the simple panel into a stable, flexible and, above all, impressive rental solution.

Michael Hoffstadt, Director Market Research at LANG, played a key role in the development of the product and provided the decisive impulses for LUCY. In this interview, Michael explains the path from the idea to the finished product, how the current LUCY came about and what makes this LED device so unique.

Tell me about the origin of LUCY. What was the impetus for the idea that something like this was still missing from our portfolio?

Michael: MUXWAVE is a truly innovative, versatile, and therefore popular product – but we wanted to go one step further and create a rental product that combines all the advantages of MUXWAVE, but is also modular and flexible and can be easily installed and disassembled. This is exactly what we have achieved with LUCY: it is an easily movable, quickly installed, and robust device that is unparalleled as a rental solution in the transparent LED sector.

What are the unique features that make LUCY stand out?

Of course, LUCY builds on the technical details of MUXWAVE: A transparency rate of 50%, a pixel pitch of 3.9 mm and a brightness of 3,000 nits are the cornerstones for brilliant images here. It is also based on Active Matrix technology, which ensures a uniform image without flickering and with increased visual comfort.

Unlike other MUXWAVE products, though, the LED panel of LUCY is not free-floating or mounted in a frame, but permanently installed on an acrylic glass panel measuring either 1 x 1 or 1 x 0.5 meters. This means that LUCY is not only absolutely stable right from the start, it also guarantees short set-up times. Speaking of setting it up: each LUCY panel can be extended on the left and right with additional panels using a stable tongue and groove connection, so that a seamless LED surface can be created with a theoretical length of any kind. In addition, two LUCY rows can be installed on top of each other to extend the area even further.

What makes LUCY different from other MUXWAVE applications?

We've already talked about this earlier: LUCY was designed with the rental sector in mind, which led to the modular design and the stability that such a product simply needs to have. At 1 x 1 m, LUCY weighs just 25 kg and is therefore easy to handle and transport. And when we talk about transportation, we also need to mention the packaging: The cases in which LUCY is delivered hold the panels in special carriers. LUCY can be pulled from the case, taken out and transported to the right place – all in the carrier. This protects the panel even better, as it is less exposed to external influences and can be safely transported to where it is needed.

Where can LUCY be best used?

We can look back at ISE 2024 for that: LUCY proved to be a reliable and outstanding part of our trade fair concept at the LANG booth. Specifically, we had a long LUCY display that virtually fenced off our LANG Lounge. This allowed us to kill two birds with one stone, because on the one hand there were fascinating visuals from the outside for all passers-by, and on the other hand you can easily look out from the lounge, as the images cannot be seen from this side and LUCY simply appears as a transparent panel.

For trade fair construction, this LED product is therefore a fascinating component with great potential – but the example of our booth is just one of many possibilities. Whether for trade fair construction, for innovative digital signage or for many other visual areas: LUCY is a great rental solution that enhances the transparent LED sector enormously.
