The Lucky Draw: Navigating Life's Surprises
Shanti Sharma ICF PCC / EMCC Sr. Practitioner / Mentor Coach
In the twilight of the year, as events unfold and friends reconnect, there emerges a tale of an unexpected victory at the HerKey Year End get-together. This story isn't a lesson shared with others but a personal journey, a dance with fortune, and a discovery of resilience in the face of uncertainties.
The Reluctant Attendee:
It all began with a nudge from Rubeena, a friend who insisted that this gathering was worth the attendance. Initially hesitant as there were several other things planned before, during and after the get together, I reluctantly agreed to go, not fully aware of the surprises awaiting.
A Late Arrival and a Missing Pen:
I arrived late, sensing a twinge of regret. The event was in full swing with beautiful women, several of them in red, gathered around the cheese platter, and a lucky draw promised excitement. But a small hiccup threatened to mar the experience - the absence of a pen to fill out my entry. It felt like a minor detail, but in that moment, it became the crux of the story.
Persistence Amidst Uncertainty:
Faced with this unexpected hurdle, a realization dawned. I could either succumb to the challenge, giving up on the draw, or persist against the odds. The decision was instinctive—I would do what was in my control. I asked around for a pen, futilely, and even considered entering with a blank card…announcing that if they drew out a blank card that would be mine. A voice within urged me not to relent.

The Ninth Attempt:
The quest for a pen continued, and on the ninth try, fortune favored the persistent. Shini, our every smiling and caring host wrote my name on a card and added the same to the pile of entries for the lucky draw. The name was drawn, turning a potential moment of disappointment into a celebration. The reward wasn't just a prize; it was a testament to the power of resilience in the face of unforeseen challenges.
Reflections:
In the aftermath of the lucky draw victory, the lessons learned were deeply personal. It wasn't about sharing wisdom with others; it was about an internal dialogue with resilience and perseverance. The missing pen became a metaphor, symbolizing the unpredictability of life, and my response, a reflection of navigating uncertainties.
Life's Unscripted Moments:
The story unfolds not as a guide but as a living testament to life's unscripted moments. The reluctance to attend turned into an unexpected triumph, highlighting the beauty of embracing the unknown. Each twist, from the late arrival to the missing pen, became a page in a narrative that I was actively writing.?
The Essence of Control:
Through this experience, the essence of control revealed itself. It wasn't about orchestrating every detail; it was about responding resiliently to what life presented. The lucky draw wasn't just a stroke of luck; it was a reminder that, amidst the chaos, I could navigate my path.
A Personal Victory:
In the end, this wasn't a tale shared with others but a personal victory etched in the pages of my journey. It wasn't about proclaiming lessons; it was about living them. The lucky draw became more than an event—it became a chapter in a story where resilience, persistence, and a touch of luck collided to create a memorable narrative.

11 个月A good read. Yes, that day was a very hectic with not just logistical challenges but many others. Family members being unwell, too much of travel, being delayed in transition and so on. Glad you could make it. Usually, you would have let it go but you made it and ensured that you participate as well. Thanks for sharing and inspiring Shanti Sharma - ICF PCC / Certified Mentor Coach . And of course, thanks for the goodies. All of us are still enjoying the same.
