Lt.Col. Dave Grossman's Rebuttal to Media Attacks
FYI, this is what I have been sending in response to recent “journalist” attacks and inquiries about my work. Please feel free to pass this on to others.
God bless and stay staunch! Believe in who you are. Believe in what you do. The tide will turn.

Dave Grossman here, with thanks for your kind inquiry.
I am, first and foremost, an author. I suggest that you look at recent attacks on me, and consider the fact that they have completely failed to report this aspect of my work. Indeed, they fail to report on anything other than a grotesquely distorted misrepresentation of one aspect of my work. The magnitude of the distortion is on par with what has been left out.
My book On Killing has been published in 5 languages, and has sold over half-a-million copies in the English version. Scholar.Google.com says On Killing has been cited over 2,800 times in scholarly works (per the screen-shot below).
On Combat has been influencing scholarship at the same pace, and has been recommended reading for the medical community world-wide. It is considered to be a definitive reference on PTSD. In the face of pandemic stressors I have been called upon, even more, to assist with the medical community. I’ve included, below, a few links from some recent medical podcasts where I have been a guest, applying my expertise to the medical community.
In particular, I would bring to your attention this recent podcast by a British emergency room physician, at https://www.pondermed.com/performance/pondermed-17-lt-col-dave-grossman-a-warriors-toolbox/
My book Assassination Generation has also established itself in its field. My book Bulletproof Marriage: A 90-Day Devotional was a 2020 Christian Book Award Finalist, and my most recent book (released in May 2020) is On Spiritual Combat.
Please take a look at these books, and the reviews for these books on Amazon.
Now, ask yourself what kind of “journalist” would talk about me, and not even mention my books. God forbid someone might read the book, or even look at the reviews online, gather more info, and actually decide for themselves.
Again, the magnitude of the distortion, in what has been said about my work, is on par with the vast amount that has been left out.
I would invite you to look at the great assortment of online videos of my presentations, and to podcasts where I have been a guest, to get a greater understanding of my work. However, I should note that some of the shorter clips online have been horrendously edited. One example is where I supposedly tell cops they will have great sex after killing someone.
There is a powerful human drive to reproduction in the face of death. I cite cops, firefighters and EMS, and even victims of crime, who have an intense sexual experience after a violent event. They go from a SNS (fight-or-flight) response, to an intense PNS (feed-and-breed) backlash. Both partners can be invested in some very intense sex. I tell them there is nothing wrong if it doesn’t happen, and nothing wrong if it does. This is, in part a desperate (and beautiful and powerful) need for affirmation of life in the face of death and danger, and in part a powerful hormonal drive. And it frightens people. Sometimes very profoundly. My goal is to fore-warn and fore-arm my audience about this response, and many other aspects of a life-and-death event.
Look at that clip of me talking about this online, know that it was taken out of context, and then know that every time they cut to the audience, they are cutting what I am saying. Every time they cut back to me, they are cutting the narrative again. A quote taken out of context can be very deceptive, and every time the quote is cut again, it is a deception to the next power. This particular deception, as best I can tell, is a lie to the 8th power.
This media narrative, the intentional deception — about me and our police -- is the story. The attacks on me, with their clear-cut, profound, and easily demonstrated deceptions and distortions, represent the greater issue in a nutshell.
The idea that some yahoo, without credentials or credibility, has been deceiving the entire law enforcement community, for the last 20+ years, is bizarre. Failing to mention this perpetuates the lie.
Now, the question is, are a you a “journalist” as you claim to be. Are you a professional who will inform the reader about my books, in case they should desire to get more info, and give an accurate representation of my work; or are you engaged in an intentional, malignant character assassination, concealing critical information from your readers? Just one word, mentioning the fact that I am an "author" seems to be too hard for all these "journalists" thus far.
Thanks, again, for your kind inquiry. Good luck and God bless, in all your endeavors. There is hope for all of us to become better people.
Dave

From Dr. N. A., re his podcast, www.vitalsignsvitalskills.com
I cannot thank you enough, truly. You are an inspiration to all of us. One of my colleagues has read your book "On Combat" and he flipped when I told him I interviewed him. He is the program director for emergency medicine at the hospital I work at and so we discussed if you would at some time lecture to the new interns coming on board. We can discuss specifics later on but he was beside himself.
So, from all of us... Thank you

A Case Study in the value of ON COMBAT for medical providers during these times. Posted, with permission, earlier.
My book ON COMBAT has been recommended among ER Doctors for many years (re the medical podcast with Dr. Lloyd I mentioned earlier), and here is a recent case study, passed on with permission:
"I’m a night shift RN in my small town’s, small ICU. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic I have needed something to take my mind off of what I was walking into every night. I downloaded your audiobook [ON COMBAT], thinking that it was so far off my radar it would be a welcome distraction. Little did I know that within the first five minutes I would be paralleling my experience in the ICU as a nurse to some of the situations you discuss in your book.
"I have, as of late, been put into situations that are fearful and dangerous. Being able to take a step back and assess my reaction to things, via your book, has helped tremendously. When the “training” is out the window, as in this situation with the pandemic, I’m so thankful to be able to fall back in what my body just innately remembers to do.
"Breathing has been a corner stone, and now I rely on its ability to reset and refocus and get the job done.
"I’ve just downloaded Bulletproof Marriage, and can’t wait to share it with my husband.”

4 年As a British Sniper I read On Combat while deployed on my second combat tour of Irag. The book gave me an insight of who I am, why I was drawn to danger and excelled in combat. It taught me techniques to manage my adrenaline and keep my composure in situation where the shake of a hand could mean the difference in life and death. Beyond my time in the military I still use what I learned in On Combat every day of my working live. It helps me understand why criminals act the way they do and how to detter them, effectively pushing them into condition black. I am forever grateful for what learned in On Killing and On Combat.
