LS Events were proud to support the London Borough of Tower Hamlets with Event Management Services during Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort visit to East London.
Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort visited the heart of the British Bangladeshi community in Brick Lane on Wednesday 8th February, meeting charities and businesses. The visit was hosted in partnership by the British Bangladeshi Power and Inspiration (BBPI), and Tower Hamlets Council. BBPI is a platform to celebrate the pioneers, leaders and role models of the British Bangladeshi community. Tower Hamlets has one of the youngest and most diverse populations in the country.
With singing from Sohini Alam (a British singer of Bangladeshi descent) in the background, Their Majesties met community members who were actively involved in the anti-racism movement of the 1960’s and 1970’s.?
Walking to the Shaheed Minar monument, The King and The Queen Consort spoke to young people who have worked on projects related to anti-racism, the preservation of Bangla language and representatives of the Altab Ali Foundation.?
Their Majesties were invited to plant a Dodoens Elm tree together in the commemoration of the death of Altab Ali, before departing via car to Brick Lane.?
With primary school children and locals welcoming Their Majesties to Brick Lane, The King and The Queen Consort paused at the Banglatown arch and the new street mural The Land is Calling, commissioned as part of the Bangladeshi 50th Anniversary celebrations.
Their Majesties, accompanied by a dance procession, walked the short distance to the Graam Bangla Restaurant. Here The King and The Queen Consort met women who are involved in the British Bangladeshi Power & Inspiration organisation, demonstrating the strength and diversity of women of Bangladeshi heritage today.

The King and The Queen Consort then moved towards the Brick Lane Mosque. Entering the Prayer Hall, Their Majesties met a local author to learn about the unique history of the building from a Church to a Synagogue to the present Mosque.
Before departure, Their Majesties also had the opportunity to meet several community representatives, including the Brick Lane Funeral Service Director and the President of the East London Central Synagogue.
Altab Ali Park
Altab Ali was a young Bangladeshi man murdered at the age of 25, stabbed on 4 May 1978 in Adler Street by three teenage boys as he walked home from work. In his memory, St Mary’s Park was renamed the Altab Ali park in 1998.?
Altab Ali park is located close to Brick Lane. The location of Altab’s murder, it is now a focal point for the local community and contains The Shaheed Minar, a replica of a monument in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The monument commemorates the Bangla language movement and the path to independence.?
