The LRM Tour comes to an end

When we use the phrase: "Celebrate life. Grow Uganda", we are referring to Uganda Breweries Limited's ethos of Shared Growth. One effort on this front is the local raw materials (LRM) program, which supports Ugandan farmers with top quality agro-inputs, training and a team of extremely talented agronomists that are on call whenever assistance is required. The thinking behind this not only fits into our commitment to producing quality products but also reiterates our support for the first and perhaps the most important stakeholder in the brewing value chain - the farmer.

This week, the Executive Committee and I toured Eastern and Northern Uganda to interact with the barley, sorghum and cassava farmers who supply us, with a view to understanding their experiences.

One concern that stands out amongst most of them is the growing unpredictability of the weather, which gets more extreme with time.

We need to mainstream climate-smart agricultural practices, especially in rural areas, and we are doing our part by planting trees along the Kampala-Gulu route because they stabilise the soil and enhance the land's capacity to store water.
