LPSG – CG Shodh Yatra (Research Field Trip) 2023 – Jaipur Rugs: How a Swami (Holistic Leader) creates prosperity in the Prakruti (Ecosystem)

Dates: 1st May to 6th May 2023

Twenty Co learners of the Living Philosophy Study Group and Chiranjeev Gurukul from Mumbai, Pune, Ahmednagar and Indore (there were several from other cities who couldn't make the trip) converged at Jaipur, for the Shodh Yatra this year. In earlier years, there were rigorous 3 day research studies of grass-roots Leadership at Anandwan, Hivare Bazaar and Ralegan Siddhi, all villages in Maharashtra.?

This year was different though, because of several reasons:

1. This study would involve a Business ecosystem (earlier ones were purely social)

2. The study would be spread over an entire week

3. The study would involve not just one location, but also several other surrounding villages of Aaspura, Surana, Sadwa, Dhanota, and Dausa spread over a radius of 50 kms.

4. The groups would distribute themselves depending on the subthemes and cover Head Office, factory, warehouse, weaving villages, finishing centres, showrooms and so on

But the main difference was something completely unprecedented – we all were caught in an epidemic – not corona nor H1N1 – something far more infectious and serious – an epidemic of Prem (Love). Love, kindness, compassion, not to forget wisdom - simply overflowed in the Jaipur Rugs ecosystem – immaterial of what status they held or where they were located or how rich they were, carrying away all in their wake! Whether it was the Admin Head Nitin Mishra, or the Security Guard Rakeshji at the gate, or the chef Ramji in the cafeteria or the Employee engagement lead Amrata, or the superstar weavers Suman Didi and Prem Didi (they have won awards at Milan and London) of Aaspura village or the Chief of Strategy Maheshji – no matter where we went, we were attacked in the body-mind-soul with Prem. To be treated with so much love and warmth, whether in the factory or home or farm or hold your breath, even prison….must be the handiwork of some evolved Yogi….certainly not the Head of the famous (globally) Carpets company in India, right? Wrong!?

The epicentre of this love-quake is the man Nand Kishore Chaudharyji called NKC or Bhaisaab, with affection by one and all. We encountered in him, a man determined to embrace the whole world, but especially the disadvantaged or marginalized (be it so called untouchables or prisoners) with the same spirit of Prem. We were reminded of Gandhiji and his resolve to “in a gentle way, shake the world”.?We were of course astounded that a Carpets and Rugs making company has managed to straddle four ecosystems and weave (pun intended) them into a delightful tapestry: Business, Cultural, Environmental and Social – thus creating a Role Model for Social businesses, nay, all Businesses…around the world.

The man, his vision, his family, his team, his ecosystem was studied in detail, through the lens of Indian wisdom – Kautilya Arthashaastra and Patanjali Yog Sutra, and the passage of 3 months will see the emergence of a cutting edge yet unique Case Report, that will be featured at a National Conference!?Interviews and group chats, notes, pictures, recordings were all used to capture meaningful data, not to forget the sustained captures by the eyes, minds and hearts! 6 days of bliss passed so quickly and no wonder, the days included so many divine days – Buddha Purnima, Kurm Jayanti, Narsimha Jayanti and even Narad Jayanti – we were blessed, illuminated and enriched beyond measure! Naman to NKC sir, the Heart driven leaders and the entire team of Jaipur Rugs ecosystem!
