Loyal employees – where are they?
A Talent Acquisition friend of mine shared an interesting event sometime back...as below..
“Why are people leaving? We are providing so many wonderful opportunities to these guys. They are joining, learning and leaving… using us as a stepping stone. Loyalty seems to be a thing of the past†said a team member of mine at work today. Traveling back home by the local train I was wondering about what he said; meanwhile, a cheerful young man boarded the train and sat beside me.
We picked up a conversation within no time. Like any other recruiter, I was trying to understand where he works and what his skills were. For once I met a non-IT person. He had a diploma in mechanical engineering and was working with a local manufacturing company. Our conversation went on something like this
How long you have been working in this company?
Over 7 years
That’s a long time? Looks like your company pays you well?
No sir. Our company is an above average paymaster
Don’t you have opportunities in the market?
There are many opportunities
Then why are you not looking out?
I am not looking for a change because of my manager. He is a very fine gentleman. He calls me as Brother
I looked at him and smiled at him. He seemed to have understood what I was thinking and immediately replied
He not only calls me as his brother but treats me as his brother and trusts me as he trusts his own brother. Everybody in our small company is treated the same way and there are many more who have spent more time than me in the organization.
I may have many opportunities outside but I am not sure if I can find another manager like him.
That statement got me thinking. Good Mangers, where are they?
