Is there something you love about yourself? If the answer is "no," then you're not alone. Self-love and self-care are two things that many people struggle with, but they don't need to be hard!
The Importance of Self-Love and Self Care: Why You Should Try to Love Yourself More and Take Better Care of Yourself.
It's not always easy to love yourself, but it is important.
Self-love means being kinder to yourself, accepting your flaws as part of the whole package that makes you who you are, being grateful for what life has given you so far, and knowing that there will be more hard times in the future. It also means giving up self-destructive behaviors like drinking too much or using drugs. Self care means taking good care of yourself by eating right, getting enough sleep, doing some exercise every day (even if it’s just a walk), meditating or practicing mindfulness, and spending time with friends.
It’s not always easy to love yourself but it is important. Self-love means being kinder to yourself, accepting your flaws as part of the whole package that makes you who you are, being grateful for what life has given you so far, and knowing that there will be more hard times in the future. It also means giving up self-destructive behaviors like drinking too much or using drugs.
Self care means taking good care of yourself by eating right, getting enough sleep, doing some exercise every day (even if it's just a walk), meditating or practicing mindfulness, and spending time with friends.
Here are 11 ways to take better care of yourself:
1) Get Enough Sleep
Getting enough sleep is crucial for self-care. It can help you stay healthy, feel less stressed and more in control of your emotions! A good rule to go by is get at least eight hours each night. If you're consistently not getting the sleep needed, try using an app like Pavlov or meditation apps such as Headspace.
2) Get a Hobby
This may sound like an odd suggestion, but having creative outlets can help you feel more balanced and in control of your life. Trying new things keeps the mind sharp and healthy too! If you're not sure what hobby to try, think about something that comes naturally for you or do some research on hobbies that interest you.
3) Eat Healthy
It's really hard when you're running around all the time and eating more processed foods, to make sure that you are consuming enough fruits and vegetables. We need these for better skin, clear eyesight, healthy gums, strong teeth...the list goes on! If we don't have them in our diet every single day then it becomes difficult to keep up with things like this. So try to eat at least five servings a week from different food groups: dark green leafy veggies; red/orange-ish or deep yellow vegetables; legumes (beans); whole grains (quinoa), fruit ; dairy products .
This is not an exhaustive list of what makes us feel great about ourselves - there are so many ways that we can find to love ourselves more and take better care of our bodies!
4) Get more exercise
This one's pretty self explanatory! By exercising regularly, we're improving our physical fitness and aiding in weight management efforts--all while boosting mood by releasing endorphins during a workout session (or afterwards). There are lots of ways to be active: do some gentle stretching before bed, walk your pup around the block after dinner each day...It doesn't have to feel like a chore!
- Take some time each day for movement, and try to fit in at least one workout.
- Find an exercise routine that fits your lifestyle--if you're not naturally inclined towards sports or cardio, look into yoga classes.
- If you've been sitting all day, take a few minutes before bedtime to stretch out those muscles with gentle poses like the couch stretch or downward dog. Afterwards it'll feel better going straight from work to sleep without any additional evening activity planned!"
It is how important exercise is as part of self care. It's also introducing what stretching can do for us when we have done too much during the day such as staying seated for long periods of time which can lead to muscle aches.
5) Take time for yourself
Create some "you" time and really enjoy it. A great way to do this is by setting aside a few minutes each day--even if that's just in the morning when you wake up or after dinner before bedtime--to focus on one thing that makes us happy. This could be listening to our favorite song, reading an article from our new favorite blog, going outside for five minutes with a cup of coffee...whatever brings out your inner bliss!
It can also mean taking care of ourselves as well such as getting enough sleep, eating healthy food which we all know benefits us greatly and exercising regularly so we're more likely to feel good about who we are because we take better care of ourselves anyways."

6) Surround yourself with people you love
Social isolation is a serious issue in this day and age, and it can really affect how we feel about ourselves. We need to be constantly surrounded by those who make us happy--whether that's friends or family members! Whether it means scheduling time for our best girl gang or cooking dinner together so the kids have someone else other than their parents to look up to, there are lots of ways we can all work towards being more connected.
- "Find some likeminded individuals and try new things!"
- Take your spouse out on date night; visit an old friend from school when they're nearby; go see a show at your favorite theater company. The possibilities are endless!
It's also talking about the importance of spending time with people who make us happy and how it can affect our self esteem.
7) Be comfortable with who you are
This one is a little more difficult than the others. It's about how we can love ourselves when there are things in our life that make us uncomfortable. This could be everything from an embarrassing habit to family drama to feeling like an outsider at school. Sometimes it takes time and self-awareness, but ultimately being okay with who we are (flaws and all) will help us feel better about every aspect of our lives!
"The truth is: We're not perfect...and so what? What matters most is finding ways to embrace those imperfections as part of what makes each person special."
It talks about embracing your flaws because no matter how bad they seem on paper or sometimes even to yourself, we are all perfect in our own way and that is what matters most.
8) Reflect on the things you are grateful for each day
This may be difficult at first, but it's a great way to remind ourselves of what we have. Start by writing down three good deeds that happened in just one day--whether it was something someone said or did, an accomplishment from work, or even getting your kids ready and out the door with no tears! This simple task will help us remember all the positive aspects of our lives--and self-love is all about appreciating who we are."
It talks about how taking time every night to think back over a few memories can really uplift us which is why this isn't such a hard thing to do. It also reminds people that there are always going to be good things in our lives no matter how hard it may seem.
9) Find your own way
Self-love is all about finding our one true self, so there are no rules. What matters most is that we do what makes us happy and feel good in the process--whether it's following someone else's list of self-care or creating one for ourselves! As long as you're fulfilling those needs, then keep on doing whatever it takes to love yourself."
It talks about how everyone has their own idea of happiness which sometimes may not be followed by others but still should be a priority because at the end of the day they know themselves better than anyone else.
10) Say "I love you"
We need to be reminded on a regular basis that we're loved by someone--even if it's just ourselves. Saying the words out loud, or writing them down in an email to yourself can help put everything into perspective and remind us of how much we deserve happiness. Allowing ourselves this small self-indulgence will only lead to positive things."
It talks about how important it is for people to tell themselves they are loved because no matter what other person does, they deserve love from themselves which then carries over into their day-to-day lives. It also says that doing so won't have any negative effects like some people may think and instead will do nothing but good things for one's self-esteem.
11) Make a list of what makes you happy and look at it often!
This is the final one that we want people to remember when they're feeling down or not so confident in themselves. It's important to have a reminder of all those things we love about ourselves--whether it be our talents, accomplishments, interests, hobbies . . ."The more time we spend cultivating positive self-affirmations like these for ourselves, the easier it will be to let go of negative thoughts."
It talks about how writing out lists or keeping pictures on your phone can help remind yourself how much good there is in life while also giving some perspective on why certain moments may seem difficult but still need to be dealt with. It also says that the more you remember what makes you happy and love yourself, the easier it will be to let go of those negative thoughts or moments because they won't seem as significant in comparison.
Self-love is hard to find but it's important. It can be difficult when you're feeling down or not as confident in yourself, but we should always remember what makes us happy and love ourselves for who we are--no matter how flawed that may seem on paper. With a little effort and dedication though, self-care will soon become second nature so make sure to try out these 11 ways to take better care of yourself!
