A LOVE’S STORY- Jorge Bucay

It is about two beautiful young people who became engaged when she was thirteen and he was eighteen. They lived in a small lumberjack village on the side of a mountain. He was tall, slender and muscular because he has learned to be a lumberjack from childhood. She was blonde, with very long hair, so long that it reached to her waist; her eyes were light blue, beautiful and wonderful...

They were given a hut with a plot of trees so that he could work as a woodcutter. After they got married, they went to live there to the joy of the family.

And they lived there through every day of a winter, a summer, a spring and an autumn, enjoying being together very much. As the day of their first anniversary approached, she felt she had to do something to show him her deep love. She thought of giving him a gift that would signify this. A new axe would relate everything to the work; a knitted jumper was a repeated opportunity; a meal was not enough of a treat....

She decided to go down to the village to see what she could find there and began to walk through the streets. However, no matter how far she walked, she couldn't find anything that was so important that she could buy with the coins she had been saving.

As he passed a jeweller's shop, saw a beautiful gold chain displayed in the window and remembered that there was only one material object that he truly loved. It was a gold watch that his grandfather had given him before he died. Ever since he was a boy, he had kept that watch in a chamois leather case, which he always kept by his bedside. Every night he would open the bedside table, take the watch out of the suede envelope, polish it, wind it up a little, listen to it until the winding was finished, polish it again, caress it for a while and put it back in the case.

The money she was offered was enough to buy the gold chain and there was still enough left over for a box to store the chain and the watch. She did not hesitate and said to the hairdresser:

- If I come back in three days to sell you my hair, will you buy it from me?

- Sure - was the answer.

- Then in three days I will be here.

On the day of the anniversary, the two of them hugged a little tighter than usual. Then he went to work and she went down to the village.

She had her hair cut short and went to the jeweller's with the money. She bought the gold chain and the wooden box there.?When she got home, cooked and waited, she put a scarf on her head, because he also loved her hair.

He came back home. They hugged tightly and told how much they loved each other. Then she took the wooden box containing the gold chain for the watch from under the table. And he went to the wardrobe and took out a very large box that he had brought her while she was away. The box contained two huge peinetones that he had bought... by selling his grandfather's gold watch.

If you believe that love is sacrifice, please don't forget this story. Love is not in us to sacrifice for the other, but to enjoy their existence.

SI CREES QUE EL AMOR ES SACRIFICIO, POR FAVOR, NO OLVIDES ESTA HISTORIA. EL AMOR NO VIVE EN NOSOTROS PARA SACRIFICARNOS POR EL OTRO, SINO EN DISFRUTAR DE SU EXISTENCIA.
