Love Wins!

Love Wins!

What this means to me:

I'll never forget where I was the day Prop 8 was overturned. I was living in the San Francisco Bay Area. I sat with my friend's head on my lap while he cried. This amazing man (and you know who you are), made to feel like he was somehow 'less than' for loving who he loves. I will never un-feel that night. The profound, undeniable sound of a heart breaking. My heart broke too. I wanted to take all of that away - but I was helpless. I could only let him cry. As I made wedding plans of my own... his was being swept under the rug. His commitment diminished... "not a real marriage", they said.

To know the love between those two and to deny it is not possible. It has left me hollow at times to live in a time where this type of political emotional blackmail and ignorant bigotry can happen in plain sight. That we throw stones before stopping to listen to one another. That we are too afraid of what someone might say to take the time to know their hearts. So quick to judge, using our own narrow perspectives as a pedestal from which to look down on others. It takes my breath away.

Now, for all... I hope healing can begin. I hope this is one of many steps toward true human equality. I hope that there isn't a "next thing" to persecute our fellow man for. I hope compassion and joy reign supreme. Tears of joy tonight that this "decision" is no longer in the hands of whoever has the biggest checkbook. Proud moment to be an American. Let love win, unwaveringly, always.
