Love what you do and you’ll never work a day in your life (almost)!

Hello there. My name is Ambrose Blowfield. After completing a bilingual degree in (English and French) in international business, I was very fortunate to join the world-class graduate training program for Procter and Gamble in the UK, where they allegedly spent over 100,000 pounds on our sales training in just the first year. I then decided to move to Australia with my best friend at the time, where I spent three years working in the recruitment sector. Firstly, for Australia's leading recruitment firm, and then for the world's leading financial recruiter, Robert Half International. After moving to New Zealand with my wife for the birth of our first child, I spent two years in a business development manager role for New Zealand's leading engineering consortium, focusing on project sales. As a result, in under a decade, I was able to develop my skills in consumables selling, services selling, and project sales, which gave me strong confidence and a foundation to launch our business to become what it is today.

Over the past 18 years, we've been privileged to train over 15,000, mostly small to medium, businesses in over 20 countries around the world, with half of those countries, delivered to in person and 20+ countries online. My real passion lies within the three key areas of sales strategy, sales management, and B2B selling. What really gets me out of bed in the morning is hearing success stories from our many, many clients around the globe at all times of the day, and through various communication channels: I recall many 3 am messages from UK clients and 9 pm messages from WA clients over the years! Realizing that we've helped people have more job security, and more self-confidence, or for business owners to finally get the return on investment they deserve after the enormous sacrifices, commitments, and leaps of faith that they make is deeply gratifying.

After writing and delivering over 300 courses in the past 18 years, I've found that our clients tend to fall into one of three categories in terms of their business needs:?

  1. Either they need help with understanding their strategy and focus,?
  2. Or they need help with making sure their sales manager knows how to motivate, lead, and hold accountable their sales team,?
  3. Or their sales team simply needs the right mindset, skills, and understanding to execute the strategy with the support of great sales management or leadership.?

It is important for every business owner and sales manager out there to take time every quarter to ask themselves the following:

  1. How confident are we in our sales strategy?
  2. How confident are we with the way we’re leading and holding our sales team accountable?
  3. How confident are we that our sales team has the right mindset and skills to implement our strategy?

If any of those critical questions are hard to answer, you need to TAKE ACTION. In fact, taking action is one of the biggest differentiators we see between average businesses and great businesses. Countless times we’ve seen sales teams struggle, refocus, restrategize, and take consistent, committed action in order to turn their entire business around.

Remember: no one remembers how you were placed halfway through a race, they only remember how you finished. Business and sales is like a race: you get to restrategize midway through.?

I have to confess that despite being hired many times to motivate teams around the world, I invariably end up being inspired by the businesses and teams that I coach and train. So many have incredible ideas, incredible passion, or incredible products or services. Their commitment to client satisfaction is beyond reproach. I cannot recall the number of times I’ve come home after a long flight, or hopped off a zoom call, and said “WOW, that team is amazing!” This inspires me to keep developing programs that inspire and teach teams to become world-class.?

In terms of our delivery, variety is the spice of life, and it's certainly what keeps me interested. So, I enjoy the fact that we're able to support our clients in one of three main ways:?

  1. For those people who want to do it themselves, we have online self-led personalized training that accelerates their business journey. The DIY route suits those who are disciplined and self-driven to succeed. It is the most affordable solution to access world-class techniques and templates to use.?
  2. And we deliver WITH our clients through our Sales Mastery Academy, working alongside them almost every week to keep them motivated and help them focus on IMPLEMENTATION. This is ideal for small sales teams (2-5 people) who need extra motivation and accountability.?
  3. And finally, we can help get it done for you, where companies around the world hire me to step in as a sales manager or sales director to ensure that growth is achieved within the sales team. This is usually better for larger sales teams, as is in-house tailored onsite training (which I love doing!)

Ambrose and Jo in working in Sydney recently.

By keeping topics varied it keeps my energy levels and interests high and keeps me motivated. I still don’t understand how some speakers, trainers and ‘experts’ are able to stay fresh and motivated while wheeling out the same old stories and content. I think you owe it to your audience, and your team, to keep re-inventing yourself. I can state that we’re likely at the sixth ‘phase’ of our own business development in terms of what we do and how we do it. My wife and business partner Jo and I often talk about the 3-year rule, where we look at all aspects of our life and business every 3 years to ensure we’re adapting and leading the way we should.?

One thing that has changed in the past 3 years is going from 100-120 nights away from home on average per year, to practically zero! The extra time with family and friends has been priceless and I’ll forever be grateful for being “forced” to slow down and reconnect with my wife and daughters. Now that borders have opened up again, I’m ‘choosing’ how much I travel, to which clients, and for which opportunities. As a family business, we’ve managed to refocus on family first once again. I can't wait to see what the next 18 years bring to us and to our clients throughout the world.?
