Love What You Do: Finding Joy in Every Day of Work

February is a month that celebrates love—and not just the hearts, flowers, and chocolates kind. It’s also a time to reflect on the love we feel for the work we do every day.

So, let me ask: What’s one thing you love about your work?

The Power of Loving the Craft

We all have to work—it’s a reality of life. But the secret to fulfillment isn’t avoiding work; it’s finding the parts of the job that bring us joy.

For me, that joy comes from the craft itself. Whether I’m managing a complex project, diving into a new skill, or designing a presentation that tells a story, I’ve learned to love the process. It’s not just about the end result; it’s about the pride and excitement that come from doing.

Finding Joy in the Everyday

At Ruby + Citrine, we’ve built a culture that embraces finding joy in what we do. Here are just a few ways I’ve learned to love my work:

  • Skill-Building: We’re always learning. For example, when we transitioned to HubSpot, we made it a team effort to learn the new software, but we also gave employees the chance to lean in if they loved it. One teammate became certified, taking ownership of the process and growing their expertise. Watching people embrace new challenges and succeed is one of my favorite things.
  • Managing People: I never expected to love managing a team, but it’s become one of the most rewarding parts of my job. Helping others learn, grow, and find their own strengths is an incredible feeling—and it reminds me that leadership is about empowering others.
  • Social Connections in Sales: Sales can be challenging, but I’ve found joy in connecting with people. Explaining what we do and seeing their eyes light up when they realize the potential of great presentation design? That’s what makes it fun.

Building a Loving Workplace

Loving what you do starts with creating a work environment that supports growth, creativity, and collaboration. Here’s how we do it at Ruby + Citrine:

  • Playing to Strengths: Crystal, my business partner, is a detail-oriented perfectionist, while I’m the big-picture dreamer. Together, we complement each other’s skills, which makes our work stronger and more fulfilling.
  • Encouraging Growth: We believe in investing in our team. Whether it’s providing the budget and time for certifications or creating opportunities for leadership, we want our team to feel like they’re always moving forward.
  • Flexibility and Support: When someone loves a particular type of work, we give them more of it. When something feels challenging, we encourage growth by turning it into a learning opportunity.

Loving What You Do (Even When It’s Hard)

Let’s be real: not every task is fun. There are moments of stress, monotony, or frustration in any job. But even in those moments, there’s something to love—it might be the skills you’re building, the people you’re collaborating with, or the pride you feel when it’s done.

The key is to focus on those moments. The more you embrace the parts you love, the more fulfilling your work becomes—even on the hard days.
