LOVE is a VERB... Just Do It!
????"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." Jesus stated that the complete law of God is fulfilled with two commands. 1) Love God with everything you have. 2) Love your neighbor as you love yourself. The practical key to implementing these commands into our lives is dependent on the definition of love. This love is not about romantic emotion; it is about developing the quality of our inner character as the basis of our relationship with others. I can tell my wife that I love her, but she will only believe it is true when she sees me display true character quality on her behalf.
????Love is a verb. It is something we do... The question remains, how do we do it? What do we do? Where do we find the answer to this question? How do we implement love in our lives? The great Love chapter is I Corinthians 13, where love is given definition in the form of character qualities, personal characteristics which form the basis of our relationships with God and others.
????"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5?It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6?Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7?It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8?Love never fails."
?????These character qualities include inner peace, patience, self-control, joy, love, gentleness, kindness, faithfulness, goodness, humility, truthfulness, trustworthy, optimistic, and leadership by the Holy Spirit. In collaboration with the Holy Spirit of God, these character qualities can be developed through disciplines outlined by Dallas Willard as Silence, Solitude, Sabbath, Service, Sacrament, Salvation, Scripture, and Sanctification. Building up our character quality takes practice, practice, and practice. We must learn to enjoy the practice of the disciplines in order to ensure the quality of our love. Remember, Love is a verb.?We must engage in the necessary practices in order to fulfill the duty of love.?Love one another.
