weird and wonderful...There is deadpan comedy and whimsy woven throughout writer/director Ben Sharrock's outstanding drama, "Limbo," though this story about refugees on a fictional Scottish island is also heartbreakingly real...Limbo takes a whimsical approach to the story of asylum seekers awaiting the verdict on their cases in an island off the coast of Scotland...Having spent time in Syria, Sharrock has a unique perspective on the unrest in the country and the angst and fear of those who fled for parts unknown...While most of this is a comedy ... the film becomes a very human story about holding on to the past ... and feeling stuck in the present and in a sense of purposelessness...A smart, well-made and sometimes very funny work that takes a subject that most of us know only from dire newspaper headlines and television reports and puts a bracingly human face (not to mention a chicken or two) onto it.
